Is there a difference in these factory rounds?

Are these not the same? New look? Just curious as ive seen one on sale while the other was not.

Trying to learn to love monolithics, 5 of my rifles shoot them oddly well. Like, ridiculous well

I believe they are the same. I've got a few boxes of the Vor-tx, and they not only shoot remarkably good in my rifle, they kill things very dead as well. Never had any complaints.

U runnin 140s or 150s out of ur 7mmrm? Ive already established as a factory load, my accumark refuses to like anything over 150gr.

It may just be a change in packaging, but the manufacturers do change the recipe from time to time. Unless the lot number is the same, you can't be certain that the recipe is identical. As far as bullet weight goes, I ran the 140TTSX in my 7mmremmag rifles, and in most of my 7mmstw rifles , but my current rifle shoots the 150gr TTSX better. Both weights perform well on game.

There’s zero way of knowing if there’s a difference, until you shoot rounds from one lot against rounds from the other lot. Factories are well known to jump around on loadings based upon the powder they have on hand at a given time, just lot to lot variations in factory ammo can leave you with Jeckle and Hyde type variations.

what are the lot numbers? there could be variation between lots. have to shoot to see.

They can change anything to nothing. Different powder, primer, brass, even bullets can change but all look the same

The gold boxes are older. Made by Barnes (as part of Cerberus) with Remington brass and primers. Absolutely friggen fantastic consistency, .446 - .466 from my rifle, across multiple boxes from different lots.

The dark ones are new stock made by sierra. I don’t know what they are using for components or have any experience with them.

Barnes did not change anything regarding bullet manufacturing along the way. Loaded ammo is of course a different situation.

150s, my rifle groups them the same as 140s pretty much, so I'll take the extra weight.

Any companies ever divulge what powders are being used? That would be like Grandma telling everyone what all the ingredients are in her famous chicken noodle soup.

Most companies use powders us reloaders can’t get, they get it by the rail car load, and tweek the charge weight to get their desired results.

Sure it could be off the IMR(Gen Dyn) line but it could be 10% off in burn rate. Think back to the surplus powders Ammo-Mart later Higginson sold, where it said use xxxx powder data plus or minus x%…………

This thread is a huge reason that I load my own, once I have my load, I know exactly what the recipe is ,so that I can keep producing the same load.

My thoughts exactly why i am looking forward to reloading my own and trying to fisnish getting set up by summer and take a couple courses.


Another reason for example in regards to my 300wby. As we all know weatherby select gold box ammo isnt free. Ive collected alot of brass. The gun shoots .75 to 1" with 180gr ttsx, i settled on it, bought 2 more boxes that should last as its just my moose and elk calling gun,...

....the brass on the 2 new boxes isnt as shiny and polished, looks more like thier silver box cheaper grade ammo brass, and is missing two little grooves on the headstamps. Bullet also is seated a hair deeper. ...

....but. wouldnt u know it, the ammo from these new two boxes, clover leaf 3 shots. So. Thats all im buying for the 300wby until I reload.
