Calgary Gun Show
Looking for new scope would the Calgary show have any deals on a higher end scope?
Heard that allot of deals are done before the doors are open to the public..

I haven't normally found gun shows to be the best place to find a great deal on scopes or guns, but there are exceptions.

The Calgary Show isn't well reputed for having the best prices. Part of that problem is its size, a vendor knows there are plenty of fish in that particular sea if an offer isn't to their liking. That being said, there are still deals to be made and haggling to be done. I've made sales before the doors opened; but usually just ammo & components to other vendors; nothing with a big price point. I'm typically just busy setting up my booth before opening, so generally don't have a pile of time to do any scouting pre opening.
I recall seeing a guy being a total doughhead trying to haggle down Diane from P&D at the Easter show before, as though they somehow had lower wholesale costs (or none at all!) on their wares at the show than the same wares when in their store . She showed plenty of patience with the twit, but was visibly annoyed. You get all kinds: some who can't haggle and pay full ticket, some who only want to haggle and then disappear, some who want way too much % off and then those who are reasonable.

I would disagree...I found some great deals on Scopes last year and bought a Bushnell 4200 that after a bit of dickering, was about $120 less than WS....a guy had Redfields at great prices.....I also bought a slightly used scope from one of the firearms dealers for $100 that is an awesome scope....
Just gotta look around...I spend both days there, there is sooo much stuff!!

have seen several very good deals on scopes: Leupold M4 for $600 (back from Afgan), Leupold VX-II for $400......and others had no money at that time....
but mostly, all good deal are sealed night before the show....so I don`t go to the show anymore

You gotta know a diamond, in the rough, to recognize one. There are usually some to be found there. that's why I go. So, Cabertosser, how will we recognize your booth?

No booth for me this time around, potentially at the Easter Show though . I've gotten my inventory down to where I'm less eager to be selling ( not that I'm ever that eager to sell. I sold 3 firearms at the fall show and 2 or 3 more since, along with ammo and components. That reminds me I have a thread or two to bump. I've unloaded a fair bunch of firearms and optics to convert into house ingredients.
As a point of interest; the Easter show before last I bought some used rifles from Battle River Sports in Stettler that I really had no intention of buying or needing; its just the owner offered them to me at such a tempting price I accepted. I sold them both at my table the following weekend and earned $150.00 for my effort. I knew the prices and felt they would go for more in Calgary, and I even think I could have gotten more out of them, I just wanted quick sales. Sometimes its good to have a few additional things at your table to gather the crowds interest.
I have previously put out sign's at my booth printed on the computer to note my AO alter ego: the one thats handsome & tall, wealthy and charismatic, loved by children, adored by women... as well as both feared and admired by his fellow men. It's posted at the booth manned by the skinny geek that looks like Forrest Gump. You can't miss it.

Have you looked for a scope deal on the "Optics for sale" section in the classified of this site?

Parking will be scarce, so dress warm and plan on a hike.

I may bring the family through early before we go scouting for wood-burning fireplaces. Early birds get the better parking and goodies that sell quickly/early.

Always worth a look down there, depends on what you want. You may see things there you haven't seen elsewhere, to get a hands on look at. It changes a bit every year, different things and people to talk to, and a few deals that are not out on the tables upon occasion.
