Default Leupold and Bass Pro

Ok everyone I keep reading posts about Korth Group and whether they will honour the Leupold warranty on optics bought at Bass Pro Canada. So I E-mailed Korth:

(ME) Hello, Can you please clear something up for me, will Korth warranty Leupold optics purchased at Bass Pro Crossiron Mills. Thank you

(KORTH) You are correct, we will still repair your Leupold Product however there will be a fee attached to the repair since their products are not imported into Canada through our Distribution Centre.

(ME) What kind of fee? Will it just be a standard fee or will it be based on the type of scope and what repairs are being made?

(KORTH) It would be based on the Scope Model and Repairs required. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

So It looks like if you want to buy Leupold optics and you want to hav e the warranty covered in canada you will have to buy them somewhere other than bass pro. (Leupold US will still honour the warranty but you will have to ship it across the border).

I have sent a scathing letter to Leupold (US) but if you want this to change you have to send a message to the GM of bass pro Crossiron (NOT the hunting manager) and tell them you will stop buying all Leupold products from them if they dont start using Canadian distributors, as they should if they want to have stores in Canada!

Ya that's what they told me when I emailed them two weeks ago. Full knowing I would have to pay repair fees due too my bins going through a roll over. Week later I got brand new bins back no charges what so ever

I broke my Leupold Pinnacle binos a couple yours back that i had got at P&D. I brought them back to P&D and they gave me the address of their distributor, and i sent the binos to them and they sent back a brand new pair free of charge. So i think you just need to buy some where else then BPS.

Ever thought to simply ask someone at Bass Pro? All issues are dealt with in store.

Why is it that people feel the need to write a scathing letter? A simple polite phone call would have saved you time and frustration.

Have an issue that should be covered under warranty simply bring it bac for a refund or over the counter exchange. No need to get all worked up.

cowtownguy,
Nobody's "worked up", and i dont see any "scathing letters" on this thread. It is a simple responce to a question that is frequently asked, no malice intended.

post #1, your own words. Wouldn't it simply things by just asking Korth who the approved retailers are? No emails, no cross border shipping, no hassles, life is good. Let the scopes at BP collect dust.

This is what I was referring to. Simply take the scope back if there are problems. Quite simple actually.

x2....seems simple to me. Just dont buy a Leupold scope at Bass Pro!

For warranty I wouldnt be too concerned, but for custom work at the Leupold Custom Shop, I know Korth has refused to work on certain scopes if they weren't imported through a distributor. Could cause some issues. Simple solution is buy elsewhere....

I plan to go one further and let all Leupold scopes sit and collect dust. I find it ridiculous you can buy a scope at a big-box retailer in Canada, that is not then serviced by the Canadian warranty depot. Pluck 'em I say. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess the Leupold scopes aren't priced considerably lower at Bass Pro than say Wholesale Sports? At least, I don't recall seeing any crazy low Leupold prices, or line-ups of people trying to get their hands on one at BP...

Whether the answer is better support for Korth by Leupold, or better support for Canadian customers by Korth, it is a problem that needs to be addressed in a far better manner.

Leupolds are great scopes, but at the artificially inflated Canadian prices, there are far better options out there, dollar for dollar, especially when you start approaching the $1,000.00 mark.

If BassPro isn't getting them thru the Canadian Distributor, why do they charge the Canadian price? One more reason for me to avoid that place for serious purchases.

Well I took your advise and called Bass Pro, then I went in and after talking several of the staff and a manager this is what I found out. They will send your optics away for warranty (to the US) if you ask but then your looking at months before you get it back. As far as an over the counter exchange, good luck Bass Pro hasn't had any real stock of Leupold scopes for more than 6 months, they only have a few select types of scopes on display and maybe only a 1 or 2 of them in stock. I have 6 Leupold scopes and they couldn't replace any of them because they dont have any. As for a refund you dont by a scopes like these to return them, allot of good that will do if your scope fails during hunting season.

sorry cowtown guy, its not hard to figure out that you work there and are just blowing smoke. The reason we buy Leupold is for the quallity and the warranty. All other stores that sell Leupold in Alberta can send their scopes to Korth for quick, easy. trouble free warranty repair and replacement.

Smile Leupold scope warantee

Does anyone know whether Korth will free service scopes bought at Cabelas Canada stores.
I strongly suspect the parent Leupold company reimburse Korth for warantee repairs. If this is true, why would Korth concern themselves whether the scope was imported by them or not.
I am surprized that Leupold USA allow Korth to charge a service fee for scopes not imported by them. In the past Leupold used scopes have always had a strong following primarily because of their warantee. Now we have two classes of used Leupold scopes: those imported by Korth and those imported by others. Can't see that this is in the best interests of Leupold.
