Ceramic tile in an occasionally heated building

Hello folks.

I have a quarter of land with a skid shack on it. I want to redo the flooring with either vinyl or laminate planks but I’d like to lay tile in the entrance and around the wood stove.

The skid shack is only heated with wood when I’m there. Is there any issues with the tile and grout, and very low temperatures? I think moisture will be my big issue so I’ll used a glazed tile, and seal the grout.

Anyone have any experience share?

my inlaws have tile on their front step out side , never a problem . outdoor pools seem ok , id not worry about it.

Laying the tile on wood or a cement pad?

If your subfloor is solid I’d throw down https://www.schluter.ca/schluter-ca/...-(DITRA)/c/M-U a membrane and use outdoor tile.

Then it could be okay.

Seems like the problems arise when the floor moves so isn’t solid. There is moisture wicking up to the grout and tile. When the tiles are the more porous indoor tiles.

Like one mentioned tiles are used around outdoor pools but there are different types of tiles and applications thereof.

But I’m far from an expert.

The Schluter membrane looks like a good idea. I have a tendency to run my projects over budget, but it’s usually more cost, and time efficient to only do things once.

The Schluter membrane is a little more forgiving than right on the substrate, I believe. I've got an unheated cabin on my place that needs a heat shield tiled, not really a solid fixture. Thinking that way.
