Powder coating rims
The rims for my winter tires are starting to flake. The rims would be OE painted aluminum factory rims. Other than the finish, the rims are in good shape.
I'm thinking that when I do the spring time tire swap that I take the winter rims in for powder coating. I'm not looking for anything fancy. I'm just wanting something durable and corrosion resistant.
I'm not wanting to paint the rims.
Lots of info online, but I'm always interested in local experience.
So, anyone here powder coat their rims? Any thoughts to share?

i just called the above company and they want 100$ per rim to clean and powder coat 17 in. rims

They used to charge $75 when I first went there in 2010, and $85 per wheel last time I had a set done in 2014.
So $100 is understandable, and still well below most competitors for the service provided... Media blast & coating.
Money well spent IMHO. I went with Satin black.

It doesn't. Be lucky if you get 5 years out of them before they start to rust again. Just buy new rims if they're just $100 steelies.
I'm about to re-do my custom back off-road steel tube & punch press bumper for the 3'rd time now. Had the truck about 10-12 years now.
My front one will need to be done for the second time in a few more years, it's starting to rust. I try to use a different company hoping it's just the company doing a bad job but it all seems to be pretty consistent quality, very little.
That stuff just doesn't hold up on a daily driver..
YMMV.

I tend to agree with Does it all on powder coating, looks nice for maybe 5 yrs on anything exposed to weather, after that, it needs to be done again. I have an ARB bumper that is 14 yrs old, looked like krap after 4 yrs, seen many like it, not just one brand or type of product, almost any kind of PC that is exposed to weather. We did a lot on new trucks, tanks, bumpers, a lot of the frame bracketry on a new truck is PC'd with a black undercoat, 5 yrs or so, needs doing again. It isn't all it's cracked up to be.

It has to be a situation where you pay for quality
My sled trailer was powdercoated with "the best stuff".
Lasted 1 year. 20% gravel road use, 80% pavement.

I've had a number of wheels powder coated over the years. I've found it to be a durable finish even for winter driving.
If the wheels are in rough shape I take them to Wheelworks in Edmonton for refinishing before powder coating. If they're in good shape I take them straight to the powder coating shop. I went with Impact Coatings last time and it was by far the best work I have had done.

I no longer own any of the wheels I had coated, but after owning each set 4-5 years they held up just fine for the abuse they saw.
This was the last set i had done, after 4 ½ years they were scratched but zero flaking. Wheels had over 100k KMs put on them in these pics.
Damn I miss that truck... It was NOT a mall crawler, and spent 1/3 of it's time on gravel roads.

My mileage did vary... Quite differently.
Sounds like you either abuse your gear, or had sub-par work done.
And your issue may be the steel wheels & bumper.
