Default Craft beer breweries

I really enjoy going to these small craft beer breweries.
This weekend we stumbled across one in Rosalind, Alberta, this little brewery
Is in an old School building which they Made into a brewery. It is Called Detention Brewing Co.
The brewery itself is in the gymnasium, and the pub in an old classroom lab.
The thing is this place is not along any major highway to anywhere, the owner said that he gets a lot of day trippers and in the winter a lot of snow mobielers come in.

What is your favourite brew pub and worth visiting?

They're all pricey. Not worth in my opinion. I'm either cheap or drink too much. I used to home brew, but that wasn't cheap either.

Seachange/shiddys. One of my favorites in edmonton. Can still get a decent pint for $4. They added a new kitchen in thier south side location. 98st 63ave ish? Pretty cool little spot.

Seachange
Folding Mountain (Hinton)
Campio (great food too)

Favorite is Sturgeon Brewing in Morinville. Check their hours and get there close to opening, they sell out all the time.

We did a 4 day trip to Portland years ago, hit all the famous ones. While they certainly started the scene, IMO Alberta has better beer.

I quite liked Cold Lake Brewing and Distillery.

I like Troubled Monk (Red Deer), Folding Mountain, and Lakeland Brewing (St. Paul). In Edmonton Town Square is pretty good too. May as well shout out Bent Stik while I'm at it.

Polyrhythm Brewing out of Edmonton is my new favourite. Honestly though, I love them all. Hard to find a bad beer these days.

Currently drinking a Village Brewing Hazy IPA, its outstanding

Rival trade in Rocky makes a great beer.
Also like the banded peak. Costco sells a 15 variety pack (of the tall cans) for $40 so actually kinda affordable.
As said above, all these breweries are making a good beer.

ps, watch the alcohol content on these IPA's. A quick 6 pack of 8% tallboys around the fire can sneak up on you

This is the main reason I miss out on trying new beers.
New choices on tap, with little info, and next thing you know your wife has to drive home.

Or they are standing over top of you asking if you're okay as you try to unwrap yourself from your lawn chair when you were simply trying to get up to take a pizz.
Always read the label while you can still see it

I was so excited with craft brewing 10-15 years ago when it kinda started out. I won’t even try any of them anymore. They are all over-hopped garbage. Like drinking a cup of roses. Then if you go to an IPA, which is what a vast majority are; they are simply undrinkable. Do craft brewers know there are ingredients for beer beyond hops?

Endeavour in St Albert is a great little place that has become popular. Great beer and food and a big outdoor patio to enjoy it all on.

One of the newest things in craft brewing is the non-alcoholic beers that a lot of breweries are beginning to offer. Still the great taste, and little to no alcohol.

This trend has been taking off in the past couple of years with major world brewers. I’m happy to see it now taking off in the craft brewing industry.

If you're ever in Vulcan, be sure to stop by Nine In a Line brewery. They have always have a great selection of craft beers and even one called "Old Fart lager" for those who prefer a lighter beer.

If one doesn't want alcohol then they shouldn't drink beer, IMHO.
I prefer juice instead of non alcoholic beer. I don't like the taste no matter how close to real beer is.

I don't see the point of beer without alcohol or decaf coffee and so on. They just don't make sense to me.

Picked up a bottle (375 ml) of Buffalo Meadows dark lager at a farmers market last week. Blind Enthusiasm Brewing Company here in Edmonton.

Very tasty but pricey! 11.4% Alc

I brew all grain beer and have done so for 8 years now. It is a process and I stick with ales in the 4-5.5 % range for reasons listed here already.
Have a 4 tap keezer in the basement and try to have variety.
With initial investment of materials out and my time does not count I make a nice pint for around a buck give or take.
Funny thing is I do not go to breweries very often at all and think how many are here in Calgary!!!!
When we were road tripping with the family and trailer in the US I loved the brew tap rooms in Montana and California. My boys were younger then and kids were allowed in!!! Awesome.
Had a few blonde ales yesterday after some chores. Lawnmower beer at its finest!!!

I was at Gull Lake this summer and i saw a guy with a 2 or 3 tap keezer on the back of his holiday trailer.
I was in awe.

No craft beer for this cowboy. Over priced and basically undrinkable.
Minhas brewery. They're keeping the price down.

Ya, I really like craft beers, nice hoppy IPAs are my favs. Yes, they are kinda pricy, but I don't have 15 in a night anymore either, so no biggie.

I like going to Bent Stick as well. A casual low key atmosphere, a nice selection of beer, and since it has no kitchen you can bring in your own food. It's dog friendly too for those that like to bring their pooch along.

Not at all. I love beer and was so excited with craft brewing, only to be so let down. Am I wrong? Please point me to a craft brewer who isn’t producing over-hopped trash and their menu isn’t 90% IPAs.

Do you know why IPAs exist? Do some research on why the IPA exists. Now a standard lager contains much more hops than an original IPA and craft IPAs are probably in the neighborhood of 5 times.

So disappointing for a beer drinker that Lucky Lager is better than 99% of craft brewers.

Who drinks light beer? And why would a beer drinker want a knock off sake (rice wine) like Budweiser? You are strike 2 already.

I really enjoy 70 Acre's Espresso Milk Stout. It's an acquired taste but a I can only drink so many Coors Light and clamatos before I crave a change.

You offer a lot of interesting criticism.
What beers do you like?
