Using black powder guns at a gun range

Question for anyone here who shoots a smoothbore flintlock, or muzzleloader... Do you ever have any problems getting access to an established gun range to shoot your smoothbore with roundball? I am asking because it seems all these local ranges say in their rules that they are not approved for shotguns. 🤷

We don't allow shot of any shotguns using shot on our center fire range but a shotgun with round ball or slugs is okay.

They probably wouldn't know the difference between brown bess and a long rifle if you didn't tell them

I've used round balls at our range .No problem. People come over to talk to you, lotsa times I let them take a pull.

Our range has a sign "no shotguns allowed by provincial law" not sure if this is a Saskatchewan thing or federal, solid shot up to .54 is allowed not sure why .58 (brown Bess)was left out.

When the range rules were loose some would blast the target boards to pieces with shotties really sucked

At our range we had a few guys into shooting black powder cannons competatively, 2.5 cal projectiles take out the boards and/ or supports pretty quick. Perhaps this is why there seems to be a max limit at your range.

We don't allow shot , as it destroys backboards and frames, but slugs are allowed.

Our range is signed to prohibit shot shells on the backboards, shotgun slugs and muzzle loaders with single projectiles are allowed.

If you want to pattern your shot shells, just bring your own stand and target backer.
