Default Caribou Mount Repair

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knows someone who can repair a caribou mount. My girlfriend's dad has a beautiful caribou that he took up in the Yukon. The antler has broken away from the skull cap but is still attached by the hide and a bit of wire. She and I were hoping to get it fixed for him at some point as it currently sits in the garage under a sheet. Thank you for your suggestions

Post Mount Repair

Hi Apatrickson
I believe any decent taxidermist should be able to repair it. I have a large elk mount where the one antler is removable so that you can get it through the hallways. It's just has a solid piece of square steel bar in the antler and a matching steel socket on the mount. I'd try a local guy first just for ease of transportation etc.

As said above, any taxidermist should have the ability to fix that with ease

I appreciate the input, thankyou guys. The reason I ask is because I was informed that when the mount broke, her dad asked around and nobody wanted to touch it apparently, as it was a caribou. Will definitely look into local taxidermists.

Solitude Taxidermy is in Spruce Grove. Give Darren a call and see if he can help.

Any decent taxidermist knows how to make detachable antlers so it's not a hard repair. Our local taxidermist did lots when I was outfitting, maybe 10% out of 150 heads per year.

I've repaired a moose with a broken skull plate before and it turned out good.
I'd be suspect of any full time taxidermist that is reluctant to take that project on.
