Default Pendelton composite stocks

Anybody use their stocks?
http://www.oregunsmithingllc.com/Pen...te-Stocks.html
I'm going to take a departure from my normal wood only rifles and put one of these on my 280
it should go great with the 26" Shilen with a Sendaro taper

I used one of his stocks, his ultralight. And I don’t want to rain on your parade but it was a total pos. First, to meet his weight, he uses his own “cast” on recoil pad on that model and the specified lop was off by 1”. Next, the skin separated from the foam core, the solids were brittle and came cracked. I was able to fix all the issues but by the time I did it weighed more than a properly made wildcat composites stock and still wasn’t as stiff. I’m not saying he can’t make a good stock, just giving you my experience.

Mpi also makes #1 stocks. I know they offer a copy of the factory butt stock, along with 1A, B, and H style forends. They also offer a very strange looking 1-piece stock for the #1. They may offer others but those are the options I know they make.

I have also talked to wildcat about producing a #1 stock and he is open to the idea just needs some encouragement to get the ball rolling.

Just my $0.02

I was recently talking to extreme rifle works in the states (he does the majority of mpi’s fitting/finishing) he has mpi #1 blanks in stock ready to bed to a slave action. He is also who told and showed me the 1-piece #1 stock.

And I should tell you upfront, I have never used a mpi, so I can’t give you an opinion on their quality.

You should contact extreme rifle works if you have any question about the quality or availability.

Lol I’m feeling fine - just offering a heads up on what I experienced. Like I said, he may be able to make a good product but personally wouldn’t risk it based on my experience.

Ruger Single has own- or at least did have a #1 with an MMNPI stock on it, not sure if he still does.
I saw it quite a few years back .

I dunno, thee closest thing I ever had to that on a #1were my F/O class match rifles, and they had a laminated butt stock and a CNC machined fore end!
This whole composite thing kinda took me by surprise, and I am still not sure just WHY I figured I need one !
A good stock set like on my 303 is a bit more money than these composites as well.....

Yep, I had this one built in 2014 with an MPI stock set. Its my main deer rifle but I have lugged it through a few fields, the occasional swamp and over a mountain or two to shoot, moose, stag and sheep with it. The stocks have stood up well to normal everyday hunting use i.e. grass, rocks, mud, willows, rain, snow, ice......the usual stuff. The finish is a hydro-dip and it did not fare so well...it tends to scratch off .....I had it re-dipped in 2018. Just fill in any deep gouges with body filler, sand smooth and re-dip. The stocks are not light but are durable. They weren't cheap but I had an urge to try em out. They turned out to be heavier than I expected .

When you say heavier than expected, how heavy are we talking?
Were these standard issue, or did you pay extra for lighter weight?

I bought one off a guy on here for my kimber Montana in 338 win mag. When I first bought it the LOP was to short at 12.5”. I glass bedded it anyway and shot it for a couple months then contacted Wayne to have the LOP taken out to 13.75”. He told me $50 and he would extend it. Here’s a pic before I sent it to him.

I was rotating at the time so gone from home for a month at a time. I mailed it off and when I got home a month later it was there waiting for me. I couldn’t and still can’t tell where he extended the stock it’s that perfect. The paint scheme matches up perfect and the butt is seamless, it’s impossible to tell there were any repairs. Here it was after it came back.

Inletting is as good as any other stock, barrel channel, action and bottom metal are all symmetrical. It weighs 28 ounces with the 1” pachmayr which is also sanded perfectly. It’s stiff, paint hasn’t chipped or worn anywhere in the past four years. Honestly couldn’t say a bad word about it. If I was around it I could pull the action and provide a few more pics but I’m a long ways away from that rifle. I’ve used wildcat and McMillan stocks before and this one seems just as well built. It’s not as light as a wildcat but I wouldn’t be scared to buy another one.

It also handles recoil very well. For my body it’s just as comfortable as the factory Montana stock which is saying a lot. At 6lbs 15 Oz that rifle is easier to shoot then any other 338 I’ve ever shot including 9-10lb rifles. Your also not asking about a kimber but it slimmed the mag box up and the 8400 mag lost the perch belly I always hated with those rifles. It made it feel like an 84l
