Thoughts on this buck?
Got this guy on my camera about a weeks ago. I like the character and the color but can’t tell the size. Any idea how wide he is or total score he may gut be? I think 🤔 f the see him I mean gut take him, just because of the color and character in the rack. He looks young in the face, but may not live to next year.

Hard buck to pass up...I like him too.
My tea leaves are telling me 157-162" gross with the tine length and the extras's...mass is average ,main beams are decent...width I would say 18" inside tops.

Nice deer for sure and I would say he's older than you think probably 4.5 to 5.5 is my guess. Young deer don't carry 7 inch brows usually!!!

Youngish looking face, No sway to the back, average mass on bases...
A 145-50 gross 3 1/2 year old.
The rest is between you and the buck.

I came up with 156” last night and felt like I was off on the high side. Ran numbers again this morning and came up with 154”. Felt better about that round. A few more angles would be nice but whatever. No idea on an age guess for you from that photo. If you like him, take him.

Looks like a 140-ish" buck to me.
Pretty decent brow tines but short mains, doesn't look very wide, only average mass.
Example of a buck to pass for 'next year'.
My opinion.

This.. Everybody asks what it scores and nobody cares 5 minutes later. Its just a conversation starter really. Its not a book deer but its a good deer. Take him or pass him up, those decisions are what hunting whitetails is kind of all about

Exactly.
some might pass it , some might shoot it, the decision however lies with the one who has it in their sights.

This ^ was my take as well
Looks to have the right stuff to get big. Already knows how to survive.
I dont see much difference between that and any other “meat” buck. IF I had the time and choice (private exclusive multi year access situation), I’d shoot a different one and see what happens with him. If not, boom and

Nice but not a monster by any stretch. Let him walk if you have shot at him next year.

I’d say right around 140 gross. And I’d shoot him if given the opportunity.

You can't shoot 170s if you shoot 140s.

Can’t marry Megan fox if you settle for a local nice good looking gal. As long as you’re happy it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Left side is weak, and even if the brow tine is cool, it does not add alot of points to correct the imbalance.
Shot a 5 x 2 once. Big side was out of the snow, and it looked like a beast until I pulled the head out of the deep snow.
Ate well, just did not make the wall.
for 150 class, both sides even, wider than the ears, with G2 being longer than the distance from top of head to bottom of chin (9 inches).

Depending on the hunting and predator pressure in your area, you may benefit from holding out for another year or two - your call!
For me, body size counts more than antler size anyhow, so... If he's nice and plump and walked past my stand, he'd be coming home with me.

Looks like your on private, chances are he will be there next year if you don't see him this year.
If your asking me ,I would not pull the trigger for a taxidermist wall hanger , but for a skull mount in the garage he's just ok . If it was the last day of the season and he was standing beside a nice big taste female and nothing in the freezer yet I would take the female . I just hate eating a buck in the rut ,unless its made into pepperoni . Just butchering them is hard . I always think my dog jumped on the table and urinated all over the meat . I have shoot to many deer in my life time . Its your hunting story, not ours . Do what makes you happy .

I couldn't agree more.
Any animal is a trophy for someone. If he is what you are looking for then harvest him.

If I have to think twice about it, I let them walk. Bonus is that you get to hunt a little longer into the season.

This. ^^^^^
I passed on bucks first day or weekend. Ended up folding the tag on itself at the end of the season. But I had a great hunting season anyways.

Shoot that guy yet?
Id have a hard time passing him up mostly because of the brows and character...im seeing 6 scoreable points on both sides.

I agree. Don’t get caught up with score. Very unique for sure. If he is on safe land might be worth while letting him grow another year.
