Default Grayling Around Swan Hills

I’m looking to take my son for his first grayling trip and wondering about recommendations around the Swan Hills area. Feel free to PM me. Thanks in advance!

Default grayling

All the creeks there are very low and warm, catching fish in conditions like that is hard on them.

Freeman river. Just south of Swan Hills. Fishing will be better once things cool off for a bit. Like the last person said, it’s probably to hard on the fish in these high temperatures.

Appreciate the input. Will keep on top of the weather forecasts and look for some cooler temps. Hopefully we get some rain soon too.

I fish that area a lot. As others have indicated, best to wait a couple of weeks at least until the temperatures have moderated. The Freeman River is usually the best stream in that area but you need to know where to go. Get in touch with me again before your trip and I can suggest one area to try.

Little Smoky River south of Fox Creek has good grayling fishing, and I've never felt the stream to be warm water. Quite the opposite, actually. Don't expect any monsters though, unless you hook into a Bull.

Thankfully it doesn’t particularly matter what you thought of the river’s temperatures.
You are aware of the province wide fishing advisory?? Wouldn’t surprise me to see time of day restrictions soon too, even with a couple coolers days in the next week, then back up to hot again.

You must be from down south. The wild hay a couple of weeks ago a guy couldn’t stand in it with shorts because it was so damn cold.😂
