What to turn the 3006 into?
I have a rem 700 chambered in 3006 in fairly good shape. I hunt with a 7mm rem mag and just don’t have a need for the 06. So I’m wondering what to turn it into. I thought for ease maybe the 25/06. I like the idea of a 243 as well. The use of this gun will be light shooting for LR but would like to hunt with it for coyotes / wolf up to cougar, black bear and deer. I have a 204 for actual coyote hunting so I’m not overly worried about being a bit on the high side for yotes. Range would likely be 600 yards and under. What do you guys think?

Since it’s a long action, I would find a long action cartridge.
338-06 would be cool

.240 Weatherby is a fun fast cartridge. And after a few years of shooting it, you can rebarrel again!

My vote would be a 6.5-06. Good luck with the project.

25-06. Great cartridge cult like following nice and flat shooting super flexible I’m expecting the heavy 130gr bullets to catch on and bring the 25 cals into the mainstream again, hornady can only put off making them for so long with fantastic bullets like hammer and blackjack leading the field now.

Fast twist 25 or 6.5-06. Not a lot of high B.C. 257 bullets on the market yet but there will be in the next year or two...

If you are looking for a cartridge to cover the hunting range of coyotes to black bear, consider leaving it as a 30-06.

I agree with the 25 or 6.5/06. Either of those would fit the bill. Look at ballistic tables, available bullet selection and go from there.

What to turn
If it’s an accurate rifle, then leave it as a 30/06.
