A little quiet out there.....
Hey Trappers,
I thought I would swing in and see what has been happening here. How has everyones summer been?
The rendezvous in Barrhead was entertaining with all the completions etc. I added a few videos of the beaver and coyote skinning in the other thread.
I am starting to prep some traps and catch up on the freezers. Lots more wolves to do and a few beavers. I will have to see what else in there once I get closer to the bottoms.
What is you target animals this season? What do you have to prep for it?

Despite low.prices coyotes are still my priority and hopefully a wolf ...a couple new areas picked up in hopes of the wolf.. 350 coyote snares already to go as well as 125 heavy ones for wolves..a nice bobcat again would be great ...good luck everyone in the coming season.

I plan on trapping a few coyotes on my home place, on the line wolves, lynx, marten and fisher will be the priorities. Looking forward to getting out there and hanging up some necklaces.

Coyote population is going to be huge with enough out there for the serious, beginner or hobby hunter and trapper. I havn't trapped /snared for 2 seasons and will let them live as opposed to killing for pleasure.

Any indication as to whether prices may rise again in the near future?

No idea on my part , I know" Covid " .was supposedly a reason that prices dropped because there was a big stack of unprocessed fur due to no one working ...let's hope maybe that stack gets used up and things return a bit toward normalcy . I have my doubts with all the granola munchers and tree huggers these days tho ...in the meantime I'll just keep enjoying my snare hobby , if it covers a few expense then great .. if not then I'll just have to count my enjoyment as payment.

I would love to see coyote prices come around a bit but I am not holding my breath, that being said with less people trapping them maybe demand will rise with less on the market. I did see that there is some really nice jackets on the GFW Facebook page that were coyote fringed. Similar style to the Canada goose jackets. Do us coyote trappers a favour and buy a couple would ya?

Too early to say anything for certain. But heard some good things. They not gonna be no $100 anytime soon, would either take a good dose of hyperinflation or else a surprise move by the BRICS nations in world reserve currency replacement…. both remote possibilities… but either scenario possible…. Potentially at the same time!
Hope not for the sake of our western finacial stability / comfortable US Petrol dollar system comfort… but i do lust after the concept of wild fur going ballistic!!!
Fantasy????
Someday reality????
Lets get thru the US election first. Hopefully/ideally without mass bloodshed and blame everything on Iran and new war…. Just a strsight up election, even if left cheats grande scale again, but without bloodshed and chaos… then we can speculate away, in whatever our new totalitarianism system of governance tolerates.
That be fun!!! Me got new knee now, can kneel all day on good knee setting snares now, but just need two new hands next so can skin into wee hours of the night like in the good ole daze!!!
But want no monkeypox vax under no circumstance…
What a twisted world we stepping into! We need us a saviour from all the coming craziness!

I am hearing coyotes will be about the same as last year and beaver will be down.
Still interest in Fisher, Lynx and Marten. Along with Wolverines and Wolves again.
Rats still no interest.

Yes, about the only species that just about every trapper can catch in volume and of course the catch went up pretty quickly.
Prices are down about 25% but still worth trapping.
With a little luck the Yellow Stone series starts up again in November, hopefully it drives demand for felt again.
