Default Fly in fishing trip.

Well another one under our belts and what a blast. Made arrangements with Rockies Heli Canada a month ago to fly in and chase westslope cutties. After the weigh in and gear loaded we were off for approx 30 minute flight by a great crew. The Ram River was blown out where we were put down on a sand bar. A little disappointing as the water is usually a nice blue color but we were bound to make the most of it. Camp all set up snuggled in amongst the trees at a bend in the river and tents were right on the edge of the river which made it peaceful to listen too at night.
We had a mixture of weather but no rain during the day and no snow too.
We had two half days of fishing and two full days which gave us a chance to figure out where they were and how to go about getting them to see our flies etc. using the hopper dropper technique was the ticket for the most part. The odd surface bite but most were on the dropper with about 2-3 feet below the hopper.
We ended up well over 40 fish landed, a few nice ones and I witnessed two studs get off as my wife did her best to keep them out of the faster water but sometimes your win some and sometimes you sit on the bank with that stare of disbelieve and everything that comes with watching a big beauty cutty swim off.
If the water was clear we would have had an advantage but we persevered and kept at it. Funny after all the walking the biggest fish was caught 50 yards from camp. Lol.
If you’re ever up for an adventure to fly in to some gorgeous country check out Rockies Heli Canada, staff, air crew etc are super friendly and professional.

Our ride in.

Wouldn’t let me have control….lol

Even caught a few spin casting too!
Gotta change it up now and then.

Until next year!!!

Beautiful. Great place to be. Did you see any sheep in that canyon? Spend a ton of time every fall on that river but that was many years ago.

Thanks for the pictures and story.

Just the one that would sun himself on a ledge and watch us fish. Hung out for a whole day overlooking our attempts to catch.

I'm pretty sure I've been in there and there was always sheep above and rocks tumbling down. Pretty cool remote spot.

Your best future fishing/hunting/ outdoors partners are the ones you made

Was a time I would stop and wait now it’s the other way around, wouldn't have it any other way

Truly blessed and extremely grateful.

Just a great trip. I hear ya on the kids doing the leading now, but us old fellas still have a trick or two to share Fun day when you can share such a beautiful spot with Mama & a kid or two. Thanks for the pics & write-up!

Those river crossing are brutal, brown water, can’t see, slippery rocks, once it got to the crotch well it gets sketchy, I used walking sticks which helped a lot but my son being over six foot just flew across the river and sat on the bank watching us stumble around like after last call trying to catch a cab home
