Default Carfax Decipher

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at buying a used vehicle and the carfax report shows a couple of ICVC collision notices without any monetary value. There is a third notice showing $3800 for vandalism.

I don't understand the first two collision reports without any damages costs.

Does anyone have any idea what they might mean?

Thx for the input.

Did you buy the CarFax yourself, or is it one the seller provided for you?

First, if you didn't order the Carfax yourself, make sure the Carfax is legit. They are REALLY easy to create or alter electronically. Second Carfax has a direct line, as well as online tools, to verify authenticity and give interpretation info.

I just Googled it.....

What is a zero-dollar ( $0.00 ) claim?

-The claim has not yet been paid or settled;

-The insured did not follow through on a reported claim;

-The insurance company denied the claim;

-The insurance company recovered the cost of repairs from another insurance company after initially paying for the repairs;

-In instances of a total loss claim and/or vehicle being branded Salvage by ICBC, a $0.00 claim will be reported by ICBC;

-In rare circumstances, the insurance company offsets the claim amount by the amount recovered through the sale of the vehicle;

This is good info. I didn’t realize that Carfax reports could be altered and that there are so many reasons for a $0 claim.

Learn something new very day on this forum!
