Default BBQ Rubs

Anyone have a good, not to hard tasting rubs for some RIB STEAKS. Doing a wing and steak night and my wife wants a bit of a change for the steak.

I like seasoning salt with a touch of cayenne pepper added. Not too much unless you like hot.

Here is one of my fav's. It makes enough for a while.

2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup paprika
1/4 cup seasoned salt such as Lawry's
1/4 cup Smoked Salt
1/4 cup onion salt
1/4 cup celery salt
2 tablespoons freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons pure chili powder
2 teaspoons mustard powder
1 teaspoon Wground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and stir or whisk to mix. Transfer to a large jar, cover, and store away from heat and light. The rub will keep for several months.

I like to use this and then use a mop during cooking. Mix Italian salad dressing with some maple syrup or honey, HP sauce and chilli flakes. Maybe some lemon if you want.

The two together gives a rich flavour.

Default I like this one the best

This one is a marinade but it's my go to recipe now for beef steaks ( rib or strip loins) It's not a real wet marinade and there isn't great gobs of sugar so it doen't burn. My favorite by far .

1/3 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup olive oil
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
3 Tbsp dried basil
1 1/2 Tbsp dried parsley flakes
1 tsp ground white pepper
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp minced garlic

Default Spice

Check out Bone Dust at Canadian Tire..After I tried it I couldn,t find it again so I went on the net and actually got the recipe and now I have a quart bottle of it..Fantastic on moose, elk and deer..Works good on pork, beef and chicken..I am a chef by trade and have been for over 25 years. Low in salt..Great in taste..Was over at the Canadian Tire on Calgary trail and they had it in the Bar-B-Q section. For steak and chops use it like garlic spice and on roasts use it like a rub..Very good spice for Canadian Tire..Who would've thought..

Superstore has a good one specifically for beef called "Memories of Kobe" It is a marinade though and not a rub. I soak whole rib roasts in it for about 45 minutes.

For a dry rub for beef I like:

1 tsp garlic powder or garlic salt
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp mustard powder
1/2 tsp black pepper

Good luck. It's always nice to try new things with good food.

not a rub as such but...

blue cheese, butter, and/or cream cheese,

mixed together in equal ratios, spread on top of steak during the cooldown stage.

i couldnt stand blue cheese but it seems to mellow it out
amazing tastes.
