Default propane tanks??

I have 2 30lb tanks for my RV that are now 10 years old. Whats the best thing to do in the Edmonton area? do you get them refurbed or just go get new ones, kinda rusty on the bottom. Where would one even toss them out?

Thanks

I thought there was a return program and you got a discount on a new one if you brought it in at some gas stations like canadian tire

I would call around and find the best price to get them re certified. The exchange programs double the price of the propane.

I used to have a summer job that involved a paint scraper, a wire brush, a bucket of white paint, a paint brush and a chit load of propane tanks; anything from 20 to 500 lbs. Now it would seem we are all going to die if they are not inspected every other fill up

In Calgary they are supposed to go to the local hazmat dump site.

Bleed all the propane off, take the valve out. Fill er up with water, leave it for a couple days, top up the water.

Then drop a lit match in the hole, no flare is preferred but either way

Then cut er up and make a neat little icefishing stove. Thats what I did. All yah need is an angle grinder with cuttin disc.

The cost to recertify them is about the same as buying a new one. Check Costco or Wally World. 30 bucks is pretty standard price.

How did you get the valve out? I have tried numerous methods and no dice. Are the a backhand thread?

That only applies to the 20 pounders. The OP has 30 pounders. They are worth getting re-certified rather than buying new.

I phoned a Propane place for my 30 lb'ers. They wanted $45 each to re-certify. Costco had them, brand new, for $49. The RV places wanted $149 for each tank!!!!

Any chance to see pics. What do you burn for fuel then, wood? Thanks

Right hand thread. depending on the valve, I use a variety of angle wrenches, chain wrench, & a pipe wrench. Chain the tank to my welding table so it won't spin.
