Default Fear

Daily you hear:

Fear the Chinese
Fear the climate
Fear the Russians
Fear the Mexicans
Fear the Arabs on behalf of Israel
Fear the brown people but DONT fear the Germans.....huh?

Fear the monkey pox, the Covid, the Ebola, skip HIV-AIDS because that's so yesterday, but fear the vaccines and the nursing homes

Fear flags and plastic bags. And straws and forks and spoons
Fear beer, wine and spirits.

Fear urban coyotes
Fear urban cowboys (well, ya might be on to something there)
Fear the left wing, the right wing and those fence sitters in the middle

Fear the LGTBQ2+ (ETC)
Fear the ocean when you surf
Fear the churches, scout leaders and the male teachers who teach girls volleyball
Fear fluoride in your tap water
Fear no fluoride in your tap water

Fear the sun, the pipelines, forest fires and balloons from China

Seems as though media really works at this. Instilling fear, making people crazy.

In truth, what good is watching the news? Is it actually news, or is it a curiosity need we have? Anything on the news that actually impacts you? Would like to hear your thoughts. I personally dont have TV, I listen to radio a bit but I find Im ok with not being informed about a lot of "news" .......

Exactly. Every time I turned on the news I would just get ****ed off so I quit watching it. If I want to know the weather forecast I look at my phone or out the window.

Honestly the only thing I’ll turn a tv on for is an oiler game.
Quit reading the paper in the late 90’s.
Only news I get is from here. By others who still read or listen to “news”
That’s enough for me.

A local neighbor used to write for a newspaper. He used to say "We gotta publish one of these every day, sometime you have to stretch reality to make it worth reading". This was back in the day when an editor was involved.

Now a days there is essentially no content filters so the stretching gets silly. If they can't catch your attention, they can't get hits or sell advertising. There used to be a broad chasm between tabloids and mainstream media, notsomuch currently

I gave up cable a few years back and the one thing I don't miss is the news. Best thing I did. You could never watch a 30 min newscast without something getting your BP up. Your correct, they try to hit all buttons to get us all worked up to some degree.

I listen to the radio(Ched) when going to work or it has me on the road. There I hear the news. Nice little blurbs about current affairs. The BP rarely gets turned up a notch. I also read the Journal at work but know it is a biased rag. Just another tool to see whats going on in the world. Plus the comics are good for a smirk or too.

Same. Haven't seen the news for a decade or two (not that I ever watched the news anyways). Peoples lives would be greatly improved if they quit watching that crap

If you don't listen to/read the news, you are uninformed.

If you do listen to/ read the news, you are misinformed.

No need to fear any of it just grab some popcorn and watch people run around going crazy

Two simple things to remember

The truth is often somewhere in the middle of the crazy extremes on either end

Don’t stress about what you can’t control and focus on what you can

Someone once said, the easiest way to control a population is keep them in fear.

Don't subscribe to any papers, don't have a TV feed/cable/satellite, and when the news comes on the radio, I typically switch it. Will google "canada news", "alberta news", etc. and scan a few headlines every now and then, but thats it.

PVR the local news daily. Watch it having supper with wife & dog I watch Hannity, Ingraham a bit, but really take very little news too seriously. Watch a fair amount of BNN, will not live long enough to hold Dean2's jockstrap......

News doesn't scare me, but we live in a constantly & rapidly changing world, I owe it to myself, my wife & kids to be somewhat prepared if possible.

Saw a lot more anxiety from those in my circle who religiously watched the news in the past few years.

The liberal bent of the local news is nauseating.

I try and find a balance with online sources, and try to stay away from shocker headlines.

You forgot:

Murder hornets
Polar vortex
Atmospheric bomb

and Travel - anywhere

Citizens: "you can't make this stuff up!"
Media: "Oh no? - Hold my beer!"

I watch news. If it's important news, I also make the effort to try and take anything I read, or see with a grain of salt and validate it with another source.

Nothing wrong with choosing to ignore news, or watch news, as long as you exercise common sense and healthy skepticism before becoming enraged, believing and then re-chirping what some outlet is trying to feed you. Nothing makes people look more gullible in my opinion.

More than half of the news out there is trash rags from the far left and far right that are pushing agendas of their own.

We'd all get along just fine together.

I get my news here. If it's something catastrophic, you guys will tell me.

Heck, I got rid of regular cable because the commercials were trying to brainwash my kids worse than the news was.

Anytime someone starts a sentence with "So I was watching the news last night...", I immediately start hearing Charlie Brown's teacher.

Some dude on the radio told me years ago “Don’t fear the reaper”. So I don’t. And life is good. It’s getting better every year despite what the media would have me believe.

I “watch” (TV) news at least 3 times most days and listen when it comes on the radio when in my vehicle…. because I like “being informed”.

I think of the unfortunate.
It’s a disgrace what the news is doing to some people. They should be held accountable.

I do worry about my kids... What they are growing up with nowadays, with all of the partisan indoctrination, and the proliferation of deep fakes...

Like Eric2381 said in a previous post - you can't necessarily believe everything that you see anymore.

Same here my woke filter is strong, I need to know what's going on in the world around me so's not to get blindsided by the corrupt media and politicians.

Try the network challenge randomly change channels ten times you will hit eight commercials 4 will be the same.
