Default Question about shipping antique firearms to the US

I'm shipping an antique (1897) firearm to an auction house in the states. I have all the documents prepared for shipping and from what I understand I don't need any import/export permits from the RCMP or ATF (US) because antiques are exempt. I also want to ship some obsolete ammo in the same caliber as the firearm.

A couple of questions I have:

1) Can I ship them together in the same case?
2) Do I need a trigger lock?
3) The ammo is 100 years old, but I can't prove it. Is it still considered live?
4) I was going to ship it with FedEx but they will only insure up to $1000. Who else could I ship with that would insure it to value for $20k?

I've called the RCMP and they really couldn't provide any help to me which I found surprising. I'm hoping someone on here has experience with doing this.

Thanks!
