Rabbits along Powderface trail

Just wondering if anyone has seen any rabbits or hares along the powderface trail out by Bragg Creek. Thinking of heading out that way this week to try some rabbit hunting. I know the road’s closed but would plan on parking at the barricade and then walking in. Also, since the road is closed and restrictions on shooting near the road wouldn’t apply right?

Pretty sure a road has shooting restrictions year round

The shooting restrictions do not apply to hunting. There are definitely lots of snowshoe hares in that general area. Finding where they hang out is pretty easy. Seeing them is very difficult.

There’s something in the regs about snaring rabbits would be worth a read if you can find their runs and check your snare often enough so the birds and other wildlife don’t eat your lunch.

Remember that it is now spring.

While legal to hunt them, the Dams are full of well developed babies, some will give birth in a few weeks.

It's up to you, but do you want to shoot one to find half a dozen live babies in the guts?

Or to know that you probably orphaned a pile of days old bunnies in a nearby hole?

Rabbit Hunting Rule- leave them alone in months that don't have an R.

I would include late March-April to this Mantra, as cutting open a Dam with live Kits leaves a bad taste in your mouth for a long time.

Definitely not Rabbi season babies ate born or about to be. Not ethical even if it's legal
