Coyote Trap Fundraising Effort

In March/April 2024, the Fur Institute of Canada offered trap manufacturers, dealers, associations, and individuals an opportunity to submit traps for testing at a special reduced rate.

To date nothing has been submitted. It is getting late, as the offer ends Nov 1 - 2024.

I have initiated a Go-Fund-Me fundraiser for the purpose of raising $17,000 in an effort to submit 13 different models of coyote traps.

To date, very few coyote traps have passed the AIHTS standard, however, the FIC held off testing coyote traps until a proper model was agreed upon and in place. This has now happened.

If you look at my list of elected traps, there are no cast jaw traps, sadly for this offer, none of them met the criteria. We will certainly have to revisit that issue at another time. For now it is taps with the original Canadian Jaw as the first Bridger that passed, as well as others, or padded/rubber jaw traps.

Thank you Marty for the post an update, too bad the coyote bonanza of a few years ago wasn’t happening. I will donate but my 50+ traps are now #3 bridger Canadian a the 30 # 2 4 coil Bridgers I modified that I really like usin can sit I guess. Those no bs traps would be the trap if I had to gear up again.

The trap marker can pay for it.If he want,s to sell the trap. Not up to the trapper to pay for getting the trap tested .

That's definitely the default position of many trappers. The background info is that some trap manufacturers have poured money into Canada in the past and might be weary of sending more to a seemingly bottomless pit... thus if trappers want more options, they have a very economical means to get this done and have more trap options to work with.

Everybody entitled to an opinion... but wisest fish-cop in the universe once told me "...everybody is entitled to an educated opinion..."!!!
