Default Goat in basement near Grande Prairie

Looks like this goat got a little lost, this was at a new house west of Grande Prairie, maybe 8-10km north of the wapiti river which would be what he likely followed down out of the hills. Either way its a long ways from where he should be. F&W tranqed him and took him back where he belongs. Now if they are wandering minimum 100km from any kinda hills they should be on, why are there only 6 tags a year in AB....

Goats sometimes wander....nothing new here, it doesn't mean we better start shooting more of them....

not that I think hunting is the limiting factor on goats...I'm just saying.

Cool pics BTW.

Would I have been charged if I killed and ate this home invader?

Goats don't need the mountains to survive. Many places have viable populations of forest dwelling RM goats, even Alberta.

Thanks for the pics.

I seen a few years back pics in the game warden mag of a goat up in the loft of some ones shop who had left the door open in the same area around GP. I think it was that mag.

I've gotta admit that I was comparing the first three pics to try to determine if the goat was a mount or not. I guess that I should have went right to the fourth one.......lol!

Cool pics. Thanks for sharing!

A friend of mine has a picture of goat on the roof of a barn a long time ago. That was about where costco is these days.

They follow the rivers, narraway and wapiti, and end up where they shouldn't be. I heard a few reports of them around beaverlodge.

There was one hangeing around Elmworth for a couple of years. Buddy of mine has a picture of him out feeding in a grain field alongside elk and deer. F&W became concerned he might get poached so they tranquilized him and moved him.

Default Awesome

There are groups of goats north and west of Gp. I'm not surprised there's goats wandering the in between.

Hate to be a downer, but if they tranquilized that goat, chances are he is already dead.

Mountain goats have one of the highest rates of capture myopathy among all ungulates (afaik), and it appears to be compounded by the use of tranquilizers.

UPDATE!!!!

I was out elk hunting south of GP today...And what do i find! 7 damn goats!!! looked like some big billies to!

These suckers are around 100km from the mountains and i think they live there....Where i found them is VERY rugged. And they were in two groups, separated by about 5km...

I found where they live boys!!!!
