I don’t think they are opposed to other grizzly hunt
They are offering a bounty for grizzly harvests to band members

If you are applying it was shutdown do to FN you would be wrong. The push was from environmental groups, anti hunting groups and grizzly bear tour businesses. A very small portion of FN bands supported the closure. There was many years of these groups pushing heavy propaganda to gain public support mostly in the lower mainland. The NDP came along and used this as a tool to gain political support/votes

The NDP openly admitted that the hunt was closed because the public deemed it “ un acceptable trophy hunt”. The original result was a meat only hunt banning the retention of the hide and skull but before the first season it was switched to a complete ban

It was not shutdown do to FN there is actually FN bands that have been pushing for the grizzly hunt to reopen since the day it closed. The Taltain(spelling probably wrong) have been very vocal in pushing for grizzly to reopen

That is correct. The NDP employed a faulty online "poll" to which anyone, from anywhere could answer repeatedly. The Anti's jumped all over that and their well greased machine went to work pushing their agenda night & day. Very much skewed the numbers which the NDP then trotted out as proof positive the vast majority of "BC'ers" were adamantly opposed to the hunt. Then shut it down based on "ethical" beliefs.

Since then the number of grizzlies killed annually by CO's (and others) have skyrocketed. No surprise. Additionally, many more are now swimming from the mainland to Vancouver Island in search of home territories in the face of ever increasing populations of their own. Negative human / bear conflicts are now more or less routine.

There was little support among the FN's for the closure. Many are taking matters into their own hands and dealing with the bears themselves. And many are openly advocating for the hunt's return.

In no way shape nor form can the cessation of the hunt be laid at the FN's feet as implicated above. It was purely and simply an NDP tactic to play for votes in the lower mainland and Victoria.

The webinar will certainly be worth a watch...

Wait, the grizzly ban applies to natives as well? I thought they have exemption to shoot anything they please.

They do not agree with the ban
They understand that there is too many predators and that low ungulate numbers reflect this

I’d like to accompany a native who wants to get a grizzly. I could take him to a place and he’ll get one guaranteed. I know a lot of sheep hunters who could say the same. Any takers? I didn’t think so.
