You are Invited to the Lethbridge Puddle Jumpers Chapter Dinner on April 5th at the Lethbridge Lodge! As one of Delta Waterfowl's newest chapters, this will be our first Dinner Event! There will be door prizes can be won . There will be auction and silent auction items, Waterfowl Prints, Waterfowl Hunting Gear, hand carved decoys and of course Guns, available to be bid on! Tickets include a Delta Waterfowl 1 year membership. All funds raised will go to hunter recruitment (our fall Mentored Waterfowl Hunt) and possibly to local habitat projects in the area! Beside Delta being out of Manitoba, what is the difference between them and Ducks Unlimited? Not trying to be funny.. just interested. Never really been a waterfowl guy.

Both DU and Delta support waterfowl habitat conservation and improvement. Delta is different from DU due to their hunter centered programs. They implement Hen Houses and predator trapping to improve duck production on marginal or human altered habitats. Like Ducks Unlimited, they also have Grad Students conducting research on waterfowl. The most important thing they do though is hunter recruitment, through the First Hunt Program. This is something that has not been widely adopted by DU. Although some areas put on Mentored Hunts, they don't cover all of DU's operating area. Hunter recruitment is very important in order for our tradition to survive. More hunters also means more money available for waterfowl conservation, which has been lacking as of late due to less hunters heading afield each fall. I hope that answered your question! Does Delta waterfowl plan on buying land like ducks unlimited does?

As of yet, Delta does not buy land. They have initiated a 5 year pilot program that promotes voluntary conservation of small wetlands and upland nesting cover using incentive payments. This is being piloted in North Dakota on small, easy to drain wetlands surrounded by cropland. The program has been very successful so far, with more acres offered than funds available.
