Default Hunter shot south of Calgary Dec 15

https://globalnews.ca/news/7523355/h...t-dec-15-2020/

RCMP say a man was seriously injured in a hunting accident south of Calgary on Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to a rural area near Dunbow Road and 80 Street (Range Road 290), about 10 kilometres south of Calgary, just after 9 a.m.

According to EMS, paramedics had to hike through thick brush to find the patient.

The victim was treated at the scene and then transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance.

EMS said the victim suffered life-threatening injuries.

RCMP confirmed the victim suffered a gunshot wound.

Hope he will be ok. Wondering what the circumstances were? There are a pile of acreages in the location noted.

From the pictures of where they were..... likely chasing ducks and there is some challenging terrain at that dead end to get to the river

May have been his own firearm if he slipped and fell too.

At least he was close enough to town that 911 was able to be reached. Without 911 and a helicopter transport, it’s much harder to survive.

I hope he recovers. This is scary for those of us who spend a lot of time alone in the woods. If it happens by your own hand and nobody around you are in big trouble. If it is the act of another you are still in a heap of hurt but at least someone knows. Yup it scares me more as I get older and more inclined to falls and trips.

That's about as acreage country as it gets and minutes from a hospital. . if you have an accident, it couldn't be better.

RCMP say a man was seriously injured when he was shot while hunting south of Calgary on Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to a rural area near Dunbow Road and 80 Street (Range Road 290), about 10 kilometres south of Calgary, just after 9 a.m.

According to EMS, paramedics had to hike through thick brush to find the patient.

The victim was treated at the scene and then transported to hospital in Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance. EMS said the victim suffered life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, RCMP said a 62-year-old man who was also reportedly hunting at the time was arrested at the scene and is facing a charge of careless use of a firearm in relation to the incident.

He was released and is due in court on Feb. 5, 2021.

I can only assume that these were two hunting buddies and one shot the other accidentally. Haven't heard how the victim is, but sure hoping for a recovery. If it was accidental I'm sure the man arrested must be beside himself.

I used to live 1.1 miles north of the intersection of Dunbow Road and 80th street. I would expect any gunfire around there to draw a lot of attention.

Is there anything to hunt via rifle around there right now? Might have been bird hunting with shotguns...

Regardless this is brutal. Thoughts and prayers for all involved. Awful

it has a primitive weapons draw for elk or a specific deer tag also primitive weapons, duck season to and is a fairly well known spot for shooting birds! hopefully it was just duck shot!

Shotgun at close range is no joke, regardless of shot size, story said life threatening .

Lot's of speculation again, does anyone know what actually happened, was it a shotgun slug, bird shot or a muzzles loader

Most muzzle loaders would be open site so would not have extra clarity of scope to identify target. However shot would normally be close so should be easier to identify target. Hope for speedy recovery.

I’d say that almost every muzzleloader used in the elk hunt is a modern inline with a scope. Even my shotgun has a scope for that hunt .
