Question Toyo Observe GSI 6 LS Tire Questions.... Anyone have them?

Question for those ‘in the know’…. i.e. Tirebob!

We recently purchased a 2020 Ford Explorer SUV for our family. The tires that came with it are Toyo Observe GSI-6 LS. They have the M+S label, and also say ‘studless’. The size is 255/55 R20 110H.

I’m trying to figure out if they’re a decent tire for the winter and any feedback on this specific model of Tire. I’ve never had Toyo’s on our other vehicles, but just by my untrained eye they look like they are decent. From my google searches, it looks like this might actually be a winter tire and we’ve been driving around for two months with them on.

I know I could probably just call Bob or chat with him next week since we’re doing a winter tire swap for my F150, but thought maybe some on the forum may have some feedback too….

I’m not Tirebob but… I can tell you one thing- the Toyos studless are the only tires that I am using for the past 15-20 years. I tried blizzarks, X-ice Michelins but nothing beats the Toyos studless. I used GO-2, GSI and pretty much every one of them performed better than Xice or Blizzacks.

Well that's reassuring! Appreciate the input. I did some more digging and I'm pretty confident these are going to be pretty decent winter tires, and also a bit of a relief as I don't have to buy a set of tires until spring.

They are very serviceable winter tires.

My youngster took his first car ride home from the hospital 8 years ago in the prior version - the GSI 5. My wife and I had a set on her Rav4 for years and years of winter use.

These tires have those crushed up walnut shells in the tread compound. They're quite grippy without being the most expensive tire on the market.

I have sold a good number (maybe 40 or 50 sets) of them over the years. No warranty claims, and good feedback from customers.

I’ve ran these winter tires on a ford focus and a dodge Durango. Never had an issue. Good traction good tread life. I just haven’t seen them for sale locally otherwise I’d consider them a contender on my wife’s Jeep.

The best deals on these tires I was getting at the Quattro Tires out of Quebec….
The price I got there including shipping to my house was less than my good buddy who owns a tire shop here could get me, he said his cost is higher than what I paid because they sell huge volume…

Been running Toyo winter tires since the mid 90's for my daily commute into Calgary from Turner Valley. They keep my old Mazda MPV rear wheel drive between the lines many times.Toyo M55's on my old hunting burbs.
However about 10 years ago put some GO2's on my wife's Honda Fit and they did NOT perform as expected.
I suspect that the front end was just too light. I might as well just run all seasons for the all the good it did.

Toyo is a decent performing tire winter tire for sure. You will find with all kinds of tires have people who like them and don't like them and say their experiences were varied, but the product is generally a solid performer overall compared to market.

They are more of an ice/compact snow specialist rather than a deep snow hog so keep that in mind depending on your intended use.

Thank you sir, I think this will be a nice set for the wife this winter. Most of our driving will be the ice/compact snow scenario.
