243 and coyote hides don't often work well with each other. Barnes work ok as do other mono metal ( etip, gmx ECT) keep shots off the shoulder.

Pretty tough being fur friendly with a .243.
You could try a 55 gr V-max or Ballistic tip load, but you’ll still get a few hum dinger exits if you slip one through ribs on the way in and out. You could try fmj’s but then there’s the ricochet hazard, and if you hit big bones you’ll get a nasty exit.
Personally I give zero cares about selling fur, I’m just happy to rid the world of a few fawn killers, to help the deer out. Maybe even help a farmer out come calving or lambing season.
I've run 87 grain V-Max’s in a few .243’s and that’s about that.

In a 243 the FMJ or heavy hunting bullets like the Partition, TSX are about the best you can hope for. Barnes makes a Varmint grenade in 62 grain for the 243 but I have never tried them on Yotes. The 50 grain 224 VGs are very explosive and I have never seen one exit a coyote.
We used 147 grain FMJs in 300 Win Mags for long distance coyote shooting. They usually made a small hole in and out. Contrary to popular opinion FMJ bullets do not ricochet more than soft points with both more prone to it than the highly frangible bullets like Vmax or Varmint Grenade. The issue with FMJs is that they will pass through intact so you do have to be careful that you have a good backstop, but you should be ensuring this with any round you fire.

I have experimented with 58 grain v-max from Hornady’s Superformance load, Winchester’s 55 grain lead free varmint-x load, Nosler’s 55 grain Varmagetdon and Barnes 62 grain Varmint grenade.
The best ones for not existing on my simulation targets were the v-max and the varnagetdon bullets. So far I have only used the v-max on coyotes and had two punch through on three coyotes but those were to low on the chest.
I want to shoot a few more with the v-max to get a better idea of how they work and I want to try the 55 grain Varmagetdon on coyotes before I move on to a deep penetrating bullet.

.243 is my favourite coyote gun. I use 55gn nosler ballistic tips. While it's true that if you hit them too far back you will probably have pass throughs, the holes are manageable. A .204 will do the same thing.
Just stay away from the edges and you will have minimal damage. If you can shoot them straight on you will never have damage.

We have had good luck with 70gr. HPBT Sierra Match Kings. All have been pencil in and pencil out. My partner did blow out a skin with a 69gr, same bullet but .223 Rem. It hit a rib square on on the way out and fragmented. But with the .243 we have shot about a dozen since we switched over with out losing a hide.

87gr Hornady HP
Will crack them open like a banana, stay away from those if you want to keep the hide. Or use them if you wanna see something exciting.

It's a question without an answer. The truth is they all will damage a hide. I've tried them all and have worked my way back down to a hornet (.22). Yes I have to pass on the long shots but on the closer stuff there is not as much sewing. I also carry a shotgun when calling.
If your not too bothered with a damaged hide caused by a large exit then any calibre is in play.

Another vote for the Nosler 55gr.. Also the Speer 85gr. btsp or the bthp if you are doing a lot of long range work 200yds. plus.

I used to use Hornady 70gr sxsp (discontinued).
Couldn't run them over 3400 but typically a internal mess and had 50 % pass thru. Moved to 70gr Speer TNT.
The lighter bullets I found always made a mess.
