Guns for non-residents
Hello all, I am new here so do not hurt ), came from Poland lived there for 3 years and freely visited the shooting range with the rental of any firearm that was available at the shooting ground.
I am from Ukraine and after 2019 I left all my weapons and moved to Poland. Now I'm here and wanted to shoot at the range, but I was refused because of the lack of a license, idiotic of course, in Europe there are no such requirements, and anyone can go and shoot!
The question is this - I found on the Internet that non-residents can buy a gun only for 3 months and every three months to renew the license, who knows here correct me, I would like to buy at least a ruger 0,22 and sig sauer 6,5 cridmore (or ruger) and something under 12k.
Too bad you can't buy AK or AR and the same short guns.
Came to Canada with three survivalist backpacks and that's it, I'm in this thread after the Nubiru attack 2012)))

You must have a license to acquire or posses a firearm in Canada.
It will take around 6 months to a year to actually get your firearms license after paying for and successfully passing the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.
You can however use a borrowed firearm if supervised by a licensed person.
Lots of information here:
http://rcmp.ca/en/firearms
For more information you can call 1-800-731-4000 extension 9026.
Be patient, as this is a Bureaucratic nightmare…..(no excuses)

I think you are in for disappointment.
I believe the temp license is just for immigrants coming to Canada with firearms or visitors here temporarily (temporary while you get a Canadian license, or the firearms will be seized). You won't be buying anything with it.
You need to get a PAL, end stop. Take the course and be aware, if you have not been here 5 years, you need a crim check from the country you were in before Canada.
You're not going to find a "work around" for this.

I think you're very wrong.

You may be right
Gun laws in Poland
Polish law allows modern firearms ownership under police-issued permit for people who can provide an important reason. Hunting, sport shooting and collection are the most popular reasons and require membership in suitable organizations.

Yes you can certainly go to some indoor ranges and rent guns to shoot without a PAL or RPAL. You will be under direct control of a worker who has the license.

Poland maybe doesn’t need licences but many European countries and the UK do.
Getting your PAL is the only way to go beyond that it’s a good idea.
You’ll learn the Canadian firearms laws and a bit about the firearm “culture” in Canada. Every country is a bit different and if you want to fit in at the gun range this is important. I had a difficult time in the UK because of cultural differences, you might experience the same here.
Good luck!

Yup thats crazy that you can .
Same goes when you rent a boat at a Lake . You don't need a boating licence.

The 3 indoor shooting ranges in Calgary will allow groups of 2 or more unlicensed individuals to rent and shoot their firearms. It is possible that ranges in other cities offer the same opportunities. Check around.
In no particular order, here are the 3 in Calgary:

What does this mean please explain?
Thank you all for the answers, but of course I’m not looking for workarounds, maybe I was interested in the wrong way, but I was just at this Calgary Shooting Center Ltd. where they refused me and told me to come with a license.
I looked for who offers courses in Calgary and found this page https://aheia.com/classroom-training, but unfortunately the only available course for November 28-30 is already filled https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...G9g/closedform
And I don’t see any other options yet, sadness

The doesn't add up. As I know for a fact they do rent for their facilities.
We're you looking to buy from them, or just shoot a few rounds in their bay?

Get yourself signed up for the next available course. That's just the way it is.
If you're into some target shooting there are some pretty decent pellet rifles that you could use for the time being.
An older fellow at my work I thinking about getting one. They are still lots of fun to shoot.

Shooters edge
Took my daughter to shooters edge for her 18th birthday. She wanted to shoot handguns. I have a pal but not a rpal. Needed a range officer with us will there. We both shot 9mm and 25 rounds each. Cost $180.00 for the two of us.

Ask them, I don't work there, and you said you were there...
My guess before this is locked down, is that you were there to buy. They refused to show you anything as you don't have a license. They did their job.

I wrote earlier incorrectly - How much are the courses and all the costs of obtaining a license to purchase weapons from start to finish, so to speak - total?

There's a good place to start.
Sorry if everyone is giving you a hard time, but you are making everyone suspicious by moving to Canada.
If I didn't live here already, I wouldn't be living here...

Ok that makes more sense. Sorry I didn't do my course here so I can't recommend one over the other, simple Google search will be your friend. One place was asking $150 for the PAL course.
Probably asking for a license so you can start purchasing weapons isn't the best route though.
If you phone or email just ask about taking a firearms course. The PAL will get you everything you need for long distance shooting or hunting, RPAL is for restricted firearm purchases.

I'm going to lean on the side of cutting him some slack. His written english is much better then my Ukrainian or Polish, and he may just be struggling with communicating clearly. Not unlike some people who have been speaking English all their life. Give a guy a chance, if it gecomes obvious something is amiss, we can take appropriate actions.

I agree totally. Sounds legit to me.
I don't know anything about indoor or commercial ranges, but would think they should want to encourage non-licensed, supervised shooters, just to promote the sport if nothing else.
I know that though I rarely see a chance, I have no problem welcoming unlicensed shooters to my (private) range if they seem at all legit.....usually are associated with family members or friends. And once they understand the process, getting licensed isn't really difficult. Getting more individuals joining our ranks can certainly never hurt.

Besides the AHEIA courses, all 3 of the businesses I linked above offer courses for both the PAL (Possession Acquisition License) and the RPAL (Restricted Possession Acquisition License). Check the Training or Courses tabs for pricing and schedule details. The license fee is not included in the course price, it is payable to the government when you submit your completed course application.
As of March 31, 2023, the license fees are:
PAL- $64.54
RPAL- $86.06
Here is the link to the fee list on the RCMP site:
https://rcmp.ca/en/firearms/changes-service-fees

kinda sorta hi-jacking/piggy-backing on that thread... sorry...
are the new-comers under CUAET or similar programs fall under non-resident alien definition as far as hunting goes? Basically, until they have a PR status they can only hunt with the host? Still need to take the hunting course?

Thanks to the administrator and all who responded, I appreciate it, I have already found what I need, "urban rednek" told me that the range itself gives lessons, already scheduled a meeting for the end of November
The second question is why I can not find on here on the forum threads on bushcraft, medicine and everything related to survival? I would be interested in reading local embroiderers and sharing my little experiences!

As 9mm ammo is $25/50 ,should have got a licensed friend to bring you as a guest for free or at little cost for a visitor.
