Not a great photo but this one is a gooder. I might even have a shot at getting my first coyote pelt graded as a Pale.

I pulled mine on Saturday (28th)......action had REALLY slowed down and starting to see poorer hair, so will leave 'em for seed.
37 this year, with 5 ruined by birds, mange. I had hoped for 50, but didn't get there.

Things have really slowed down for me in this warm weather as well. Colder weather is forecasted so hopefully things pick up again. I noticed the underfur thinning a bit but I feel that the coyotes around here still have good value to them. I may not catch many more $150 coyotes but $100 coyotes still makes it worth my while. I'm headed to a new baitsite about 70 Kms from here tomorrow to hang snares and put more bait out. I dropped off a whole sheep out there Saturday. I hope that you guys that have packed it in for the year had a great season.

In the same boat here , sad day when we pull out snares . We ended with 67 total 54 were snared and luckily only had the one destroyed by girds . 37 is a heck of a catch in your wide open spaces .. congrats .

Hit 45 last night on the year. Only one bait left and will more than likely pull it this weekend as it sounds like the next big warm up starts Thursday. With this last cold snap the river froze up good again and the coyotes picked right up.
Been a really fun season of trapping with the drastic changes in weather. -30 to +15, foot of snow to no snow and back again. Really keeps a guy on his toes when you are constantly changing and tuning your setups.

Yup, this will be my last week as well. Already pulled my snares from two locations and have two active baitsites still going. The remainder of my bait is going out tomorrow. Maybe catch a few more before pulling snares next week. I'll be jumping right into beaver under ice with my first ADC job on Friday. Fun, fun, fun!

Anyone still snaring coyotes? I caught one today that's real nice on the back but has a bare spot on the middle of his chest.....Pretty much his whole sternum.
They're all running around in heat around here. I pulled up beside a coyote in the ditch today and it just hung around and didn't high tail it out of there. It wasn't somewhere that I could shoot it. They're really getting stupid.
That male that I caught must have humped the fur right off his chest. :

I pulled everything yesterday and then set one farm where the farmer is worried he's got a coyote problem. Calving season is coming so I'll give it until the end of the season and try to help him out. I'm not convinced he's got many around but we'll see. I finished up with about 80 this year. Not bad considering my late start and reduced effort this year.

Ever notice that coyotes aren't an issue until calving season and beavers are not an issue until they start knocking down trees in preparation for the winter?
On Friday I got a call from a rancher that is calving now and he was frantic about his coyote problem. I drove out to have a look but his home quarter was better suited for footholds than snares. I noticed what was left of a carcass in his yard and suggested that he dispose of it elsewhere because it was attracting coyotes. That's when he told me about his dead pit on another quarter a km away. Long story short.....I put up 20 snares there.
I only have one other baitsite left besides that one to basically use up the last of my bait. When it's gone in this warm weather, or the coyotes aren't worth trapping anymore, the snares are coming down.

Pulled mine 2 days ago, and it was a bust, 48 snares, zero fur.
It's official, I feel I'm the worst trapper in AB.
5 trips to Valleyview, Jan - Feb, near $800 in fuel, and $4-$500 in supplies.
Thought about leaving snares out another week or so, but na.
Gotta make a better plan for next season.

No luck, some wolf and yote trax but nothing to show from it.
One break away, likely a deer. A few loops knocked down, but should have got some.
Same setups got us 5 yote and a wolf last year.
Maybe I should try off the main trails next season.
