I got into reloading because I wanted to make reduced recoil loads for my kids in .243

While I know there are a number of ways to do this and each have their own merits I used the Hodgdon reduced recoil load directions using H4895

essentially 60% of the max charge for a given bullet

I did not try their loading protocol for TrailBoss (even though it may produce even lower recoil than the H4895) as my oldest found the recoil of the H4895 reasonable. This being said my 7 year old want to try a little center fire so might try some trail boss loads for him some day soon.

We are now slowly titering on up to a full hunting load

After packing up my reloading room in summer 2013 for a move I FINALLY unpacked and started setting things up and am going to get back into reloading and shooting.....nothings changed right?

Also took my 10 year old son out for his first time shooting on New Years Eve so taught him how to clean the 22. I think I've created a monster!

Preliminary load work up and brass prep for a friend's 6.5X284, more soaking of barrels, and some annealing and shoulder bumping of 6mmBR- oh and some 308 stuff!

Be careful with going too low of load with a standard powder you would use at full capacity. Large spaces of empty case can result in failure to ignite properly and get hangfires.

cleaned up some of the disorder and cast a couple hundred 44 240gr and about the same in 460 for my 45-70. then set up to cast some 377 and buckshot tomorow while powder coat cooks on the 44's and 45. Gonna get some range time this year.

Wow, that is a long time away from reloading. It must feel great to be back at it again, especially with a son who could start helping out. Congrats.

I took the time to load 400 28 gauge skeet loads this morning, and still around 3000 hulls to load between 28 and 410.

I used to have a reloading room but then the government said they were going to limit the amount of ammunition a person could have so I sold everything before the price takes a tumble.

1/2 of my reloading room is dedicated to fly fishing and tying flies, the other half is for hunting, reloading and firearms storage. My reloading room/den is right below my wife's music studio. She is a accomplished pianist so I dont need a radio, I just listen to her music. Nothing done today in my den so far.
But I expect shoulder surgery on the 6th of January for a torn rotator cup. During the lengthy recovery process, I expect to be tying flies in preparation for this summers fly fishing season. I have plenty of ammunition that I've loaded and awaiting ladder testing, possibly later this year.

You are a lucky man. Half of my reloading room is dedicated to the washer and dryer.

Absolutely - thank you for the advise and reminder

I am following the Hodgdon instructions very carefully. I actually started at about 6% above their lower end for the reduced recoil load - so about 66% of max charge

Loaded up some test charges with some 175gr LRX in the 30-06.
The 180 swift scirocco shoots so accurately I shouldn’t change a thing, but it’s reloading, it’s not supposed to make sense!
Worst case Ontario I just revert to the 180 scirocco and kill stuff with it

Tuned up 4 scales (3 Rcbs 10-10 and my old standby 5-0-5 ) and got them reading proper zero. Figured out a few issues with some used dies I had bought. Cleaned up a bunch more stuff from the auction, put it in proper order and found most of it a new home, all in all a good day.

3 hours last night. Went to bed at 530 this morning and up at 830. And yet, here I am, still awake!!!
Went back to the reloading room for a bit and put some 130gr Speer spbt onto the 7mm-08 cases sitting there sized and primed and just waiting for some powder.
Good thing I added some of that too
Looks like I’m going to have to make a range day soon seeing as the ice fishing has been lousy for me

how do ya tune up a set of balance beam scales?

Setting up an old long range .223 for my son , trigger needs setting and I need tom put a scope on it because I have been shooting it prone with the irons on it. Range day tomorrow to test it and the 6.5/284 I have been working on.
While I am at it I may as well load some more 6mmBBR - I have found that the shelf life on that stuff is very short!

Neck sized 50 Nosler brass for the 257wby, loaded with H 1000 and 110 accubonds. Now to zero the new NF SHV scope on the 257wby and build a drop chart.

Changed scopes on a 22-250 from 25X to 3-9X, Load development is done, now it is ready for the gopher patch!

I rolled up 50 rounds of 45-70 to test in my new Marlin 1895GBL. I have ten rounds of five different charge weights to test. My bullet is the 300gr RNFP by Campro over IMR4198 inside Winchester brass.

I’m just looking to get the feel of the big bore 18.5” rifle, guage the speeds, and see how the recoil is. I’m probably looking for an ideal combination with around 1900fps.

We’ll see how it goes on Saturday.
