I 1974\75 I took my Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education course in school, grade 9. I still have the course manual and a small wallet card but I've lost the actual certificate.
Our school principal also let us fire his hand guns right in our classroom.
I haven't hunted in 40 years so I'm planning to take the course again anyway. Looking forward to getting out and doing some hunting next year.

Thanks for posting this, I want my wife to take the course but I'm doubtful I could get her to got to an in class course. Tough to get the time with 3 little boys but this is definitely doable.

Just took it, has 100 questions which you have 90 minutes to complete. You need a score of 80% to pass.

Same here - Often when we have issues with internet applications on the Mac, we will try using the Chrome browser instead of Safari. But if I remember correctly, my eldest son ended up just doing it on IncrediGirl's old PC laptop instead because we were having too much grief doing it on the Mac.

Took the online course
I took the online course and found it lacking. Maybe it's because I am older and had a father that took me hunting and into the wilderness. What I found that blew my mind was they spent zero time discussing the draw, WMU, licensing and application process. So at the end of it I am still confused how to navigate the system.
It was nice to do it at night at my convenience, but would have liked a person to grill on the rules, as that's where I need the help.
Just my 2 cents

Can you still avoid this by having hunter course cards and past hunting licences from other provinces?

Hunters Education
The coarse is 100 questions and there is a time limit.
I found a lot of trick questions so you must read them carefully before answering.
you need 80% to pass and the questions cover a large array of topics.
Just make sure you study.
If your weakness is game birds then study that closely.
Or if your a rifle hunter and don't know much about bow hunting, study bow hunting ect. Because it will be on the test.
You'll have to know what's ethical or not and the technical aspect of bow and rifle parts.
You'll have to know survival basics and first aid.
you'll also need to study your wmu's and restrictions, whats legal to hunt, where and when.
Just make sure you study and understand each module.
Yes it lacks in wmu information but they do have question about wmu's.
So study external information about the wmu's and restrictions.
Best of luck!

Yes you can by holding a certificate number you login to your Alberta Relm account and add the number to your W.I.N card information.
You'll have to carry the certificate with you while hunting for proof of out of province training.
If you do not have the certificate number or card you'll have to take the Alberta hunters education course to get one.
Simply checking the box saying you have out of province education with out a number doesn't work.
You'll need that number proof of education.

Anyone know how to register your son for the course? (Hunter Education Certification) I tried to create an account for him at AHEIA but I couldn't put his year of birth in because it only went to 2011 and he was born in 2015. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

I don’t think they run the program for 2/3 year olds........
I could register my son until he was 11, the legal age to hunt is 12.

Can anyone tell me - do I need to wait for my certificate to get mailed out before I can get my hunting license? Or do they issue me a temporary certificate upon completion.

I just finished mine the other day. You should get an email within 24-48 hours that contains your ID number. In my email it said you can use that number to purchase licenses and draws right away.

You may have a browser compatibility issue. Which browser were you using?
I’ve had to do some tweaking in order to get it to work on Macs and Chromebooks.

You need to go into the settings and let flash player work. Even when you allow it you usually have to manually enable it and then it reloads the page for it to work. It will only work on PC, but you just have to get Flash working.

I'm older and have only hunted large fish but am having problems figuring out, as a senior, what all I need to get in the way of licenses to get into my first hunt. I've been fishing the last few years without a license but do I still need a WIN card for that and/or for hunting?
EDIT: Seems I do need a valid WIN so got that taken care of at albertarelm.com just now and ordered a physical one as well.
My old gun permit had expired years ago so took the class a year ago last may and 6 months later got my PAL. I was going to get a scope and a bolt-on mount for my old Enfield .303 I've had since the 70s but an as yet unfired Savage Axis1 .270 with a hard case, strap, laser bore sighter and big-ass trigger lock came into my life for $400. Also got 5 boxes of ammo for $20 each from the same local private estate sale.
I'm signing up for the hunter education course and a friend's well experienced son seems available to take me out in an area where bagging my first deer is almost guaranteed if I don't get buck fever. It seems the older I get, and I'll be 70 on Thanksgiving day this year, the more reluctant I am to kill. For me this is more about putting good organic food on the table than it is for sport. No getting up at the crack of dawn and spending a cold day in the woods unless it's for fishing.
Now to get signed up for the course.
