Default The benefits of wet tumbling

Are these new…?

Nope! They are four cycles in now. Just look at those primer pockets. Factory new! After just 90 minutes in the water.

More evidence of the benefits of wet tumbling. Why would anyone still be on the fence about this cleaning method?

No, I’m not trying to start any arguments here.

Nice. What are you putting in the tumbler. I can tumble mine in hot water with 5 lbs of stainless pins for 3 hrs with the little Frankfort Arsenal cleaning pods and the primer pockets are never that clean.

I quit using the lemishine as I think the citric acid was starting to eat the rubber lining in the Frankfort Arsenal pin tumbler.

I use a healthy squirt of Dawn dish soap, and a small squirt of Lemi-Shine. Always cold water. (I actually tried a test with hot water and it didn’t work well at all.)

I’ve heard of the FA tumbler’s rubber lining causing issues. It seems to deteriorate for some reason. I’ve never had that issue with past units that I’ve had. (Thumler’s and Extreme)

Lots of threads about on the forums about the FA tumbler. Maybe it’s time to try a different unit(?).

Loaded a few 90 grain Bergers for the Wylde Thang for 900 meter zeroing tomorrow .
A friend came over for me to look at his 308 M99.
Same old story, huge groups at 100 yards, cleaned about 5 years ago by somebody with u known stuff.
The bore scope showed big time copper and powder fouling and a carbon up throat .
Showed him how to do it as best I could from the muzzle using a brass guide , and it looks like a new barrel I sudc now.
A trip to the range will tell the tale

Range tests resulted in a very happy owner, the Limbsaver got the 7mag BLR to smarten right up ,he can hit consistently with it at 300 and 200 meters now, and the the 99 Savage will hold three shots I. 1.5 " at 100.

Did a major (and long overdue) Spring cleaning of the cupboards above the garage bench yesterday ......... amazed at all the crap I have accumulated over the years. Lots of brass for calibers I no longer own ....

Also loaded some 9.3x62 for a range session this morning.

Prepped and primed 50 338 edge brass. I'll load them tomorrow before I go to work. I also reinforced my chassis butt stock, MDT only had 1 dowel and a screw knob for adjustment. I found some round stock, cut to length, drilled and tapped it, attached to the butt pad and now it has 3 points of contact.

When I was in Wyoming, that rear stock would always loosen on my mid stage, causing way to much shifting. I ordered some hardware from mdt to put a screw adjuster on the cheek rise.

Well it was a tough go. Got the bench cleaned. Everything ready and in there spot.
Prepped 180 .243 brass, tumbled and sorted over 300 pieces of random rifle brass from all over the garage. Now to load some 100gr interlock in the .243 for my daughters gun. Some 150 bt nosler for the wifes 308 and probably prep alot of brass I have alot of brass
Also took my 4 kids to the range yesterday 9 year old burned most of a brick with her chipmunk, 11 year old eat all the .243 55gr varmegedon up, 13 year old daughter practiced with shooting sticks at 200m and the 14 boy squeezed a 3/4 inch group at 200m with his new to him .257 Roy. Hard to beat those vanguards. I also brought 3 pistols for practice while barrels cooled.
We will not discuss ammo prices around the wife....

Loaded some hunting ammo for the .303 Ruger the other day, and got 100 rounds of 95 grain .223 ready to go for the Wylde Thang to shoot in our 900 meter match on the 31st.

First time ladder tests for my new tikka 270wtby.

Has anyone found success with h4831sc - 150gr accubonds - fed 215 primers? Most i could generate out of it was 3110fps and bolt started to stick. No case pressure signs, no primer signs. Took me a long way to get up there, 2 full 10 load ladders.

Groups were good and consistent - SD's of 2 and 6 for the most part. Accurate in the 2800fps, but what's the point of having a 270wtby without the speed??

Any suggestions??? Anyone found better success? Was looking at testing the imr7828 tomorrow.

Wet tumbled some 7mm BR. brass (Still waiting on my .30 BR rifle to show up ).
Also tumbled some .30cal, BR Remington (R-P) brass (This brass was intended to give the 30-30 a run for the money, in a rimless case in the 1906 Winchester?). (Looks very similar to 7mm-08/.308 brass but dimensions are slightly different)
Guess it is pretty rare, I have 79 new pieces, if anyone is interested.

Gawd, you folks are making me envious. I’ve had house guests for the past month. I haven’t shot anything in almost a month. I’m being a nice host. But damn, I need to shoot something!

The good thing is that my spring loading sessions yielded me enough ammo (+/-3500 rounds). It has done well this summer season. But I really miss the loading bench.

September beckons.

The most I load at one time for any one cartridge is 100, sometimes 200 but not often.
That reasoning is that I can "stay in touch" with both the load and a particular rifle in case I want to switch COAL , powder charge, etc. for my match rifles.
For my hunting rifles, they rarely see 25 rounds per season, so I usually only keep about 50 on hand for them.

With the exception of 40 6.5 prc brass I have everything loaded. I’m almost to the point of asking my nephews to bring me prepped brass and components just so I can use my V4.

I'm pretty much caught up on my reloading maybe 40 or 50 each for the 7mm PRC, 6.5 PRC and 6mm Creedmoor laying in tubs on the bench waiting for their turn, I had everything loaded in May during the cool rainy weather and didn't shoot many 1 shot groups this summer
June, July and Aug is trap shooting season so my shot guns get a real work out, chewed up close to 8,000 rounds and have another 1,200 round shoot starting Friday.
