Grunt bleat combo called in all 3 bucks

I stopped rattling last year as I found it caused the mature bucks in my area to circle in the thick stuff rather than step out bs the grunt bleat combo where the seem to just slowly come in

Well here is my view anyway

Of course the dink buck came right in the open at 5yards but the two nice bucks were in the timber on the down hill side

This is really open ground too me

Awesome Smoky, looks like a great spot!

What does your grunt + bleat combo look like?

I gave up on the rattling last season as well. Have had some luck with both grunts and bleats (can) but never used them in conjunction.

Good luck out there today, hope the big guy comes back!

True talker grunt and 3 different can calls. I like the ability to vary the tone of my bleats and grunts

More than anything it’s being in the right location and right time. The calls just help get them to detour just enough so I can hopefully see them

Outside of that first good hour only seen a spiker.

Opted to switch stands for the afternoon to put the wind in my favor. Checked the cam and it’s not showing anything of interest and slow. The old smart bugger I set the stand for seems to have shifted on me. He has done this in past years when I set a stand for him and trimmed lanes. He just doesn’t seem to tolerate anything changing in his area even if done months in advance

Here is my view for the afternoon but I think it’s going to be a dud sit

Ya never know what will show up and when.
I had a standoff this morning, the buck walked off and an hour I snuck out too.
Off to another spot.

Not bad for the first day anyway. And it’s warm, at least here.

It’s warm here too

58thecat you are right you never know but I am starting this season being picky so it’s got to be something special. The buck I set this stand for is the only one that hits that standard in this spot. It’s been sometime since I have had him on cam here and nothing else that has my attention has shown

But I have him on cam recently at another stand near by and it’s the first day so screw I am going to ride it out this afternoon

Well yesterday was slow and the wind was bad so I went and filled a supplemental tag. No pictures but spent the morning butchering that. So just getting on stand

Wife has been out all day and seen two deer that should couldn’t identify

Well here is my view for the evening

I guess she couldn’t take it anymore lol

It’s only her second buck ever and my rules are it’s your tag shoot what makes you happy

Now to climb out of my stand and go help her lol

Great! If she's happy that is all that counts!

Yeah, the weather kindda sucks. I mean it is nice, but I am planning to head out for a day tomorrow too and not really expecting to see much either.

Yup she is happy and in the end that is what matters. She has only taken 3 deer and 3 bears. She still needs to develop confidence/experience reacting to a shot situation so each tag fill will helps in my opinion

Just a little buck but it was done all on her own and from her own spot. I only drove over to play pack mule

Congrats to the wife! Absolutely agree, there is a valuable experience it making kills. If it makes you happy, go for it.

I also agree with women who seem nice then suddenly turn. I keep a close eye on mine but I wouldn’t see it coming lol. The whitetail experience.

Congrats to your wife. Great job. What was she using for a rifle? I took your advice last year on the multiple can calls and got a couple more for Christmas last year so I’m excited to try that out tomorrow morning. Thanks a lot for the great annual thread.
You da man, cool guy!

She is shooting a Tikka compact in 7mm-08

Hopefully it the calls treat you well right now I have been packing two cans and my grunt call. I am just a guy who enjoys running around the bush chasing whitetail and puts in effort to do so nothing more

Honestly the whole reason these threads were started was to show that if you are willing to put in the effort to learn your area it’s worth it. Also to show some tight cover low pressure tactics that are less common. I am into my 5 season in this and it just keeps getting better with the more I learn about the area

Everything you see is just putting in time to gain knowledge, adjusting from success/failure, paying attention and not giving up. Anyone is capable in my opinion
