If its an open field and there is a trail I actually seek the deep/soft snow, it just glides on it, a packed down trail as you can imagine is not very comfortable cause you are at the mercy of every bump standing up in that sled. But for deep snow it is fantastic, it weighs around 250lbs i believe and has reverse, so even if you get stuck you can unhook the sled and move it. The most I got stuck was on long hills with deep snow, that's about it.

I dont think you can compare the two, they are quite different. For me it comes down to size. I can fit two sleds, the dog, my ice tent, all my gear in my old chevy short box truck. Also I live in a duplex and I dont have room for a trailer or anything. But dont get me wrong I would take a snowmobile over a dog for long trips and stuff but if you are not going far and going off trails they are a great tool.

Very nice, Aragor! Sweet build.
I’m still mulling over the idea of the whole hot tent/stove thing. Im in a bit of a shift as the kids are becoming more independent and may not necessarily be coming along with me for those fall hunting forays.

Stove looks great. Is there a damper on the stove pipe?

You will want a stove pipe damper or you will have trouble slowing the stove down enough not to roast you out of the tent. It Lso helps with length of burn time. Nice looking stove.

hey guys, my main plan is to camp out in November, but I might try and spend a few night in mid-October as well. The great thing about November is that i dont have to worry about bears and bugs and stuff.
What are you guys's experience of camping out in October? Keep in mind that i will be sleeping in an ice fishing tent, so no floor liner, how annoying are the bugs and the bears? i will be keeping all of my food inside my truck of course.
TIA

October - bugs are an issue mainly when it is warm, but otherwise not bad.
Condensation can be an issue in your sleeping quarters, so account for that.
Bears are always a concern, I’ve cut grizz tracks in late November.

Did a little test drive yesterday in the driveway, I think it will work great. I will be making an outlet window out of a welding blanket and will also put a blanket behind the stove inside, can't wait for November!

I suggest some kind of fire proof blanket/metal around front of heater, sparks and chunks of burning wood tent to fall out of door when loading. I like bare clay around heater in tent.

It" be snow or frozen ground, so not to worried about sparks and chunks, I put a tarp down last year but I don't think im gonna do that this year.

After heater works for few hours ground, especially peat moss will not be frozen anymore. Peat moss smoking in your tent can be quite dangerous.

Well, another great season has come to an end, I was very lucky to get my best buck yet this year. I was going through my photos and thought I would show you guys my setup, it worked out great.
I would like to upgrade at some point to something a bit better as far as tents go. I know it has been asked multiple times on this forum but I would like to get your opinions on hunting tents setups. I am very limited in storage space, so a wall tent would be out of the question for me, plus I hunt alone 99% of the time so it would be too big. If money was no object I would get an Arctic Oven 10, those look awesome, but very pricey! Currently leaning toward the Big Horn III tent, still not sure, what do you guys think? TIA

A bit of work and one of these would be a cheap warm option. Do you have any videos of you cruising with your tracked machine? Pretty neat setup and great job on a great buck.

I do not, but you can find some on Youtube, it is great for retreiving deer out of the bush!

I’ve thought of making a bunch of basic wood stoves out of old propane tanks and setting them out in areas I hunt in the off season and leave them there so they’re ready when I need them.

eric 2-9, I would suggest you take your propane tanks/heaters home with you and not litter the bush with junk.
