Frig. Still holding out some hope to camp at Dink Point for New Year's Eve, but gonna need some help. I'm betting it's about 5" there... Need some chilly overnights.

Sylvan is now 6-8 inches on the North side.
Drove by Pigeon and the entire South half of the lake is one big skating rink. Bring cleats if you plan to fish the PP. North side has a frost crust on it and it looks to be not nearly as bad. I didn't notice any major heaves and Sandholm is good to get on if you can get through the deep soft sand.

We THOUGHT about loading the canoe... But we'll definitely pack the open water rods just in case and shore fish there if need be. Figure we can camp on land at the point if it's thin ice.

Be careful with camping... EID does not allow camping on the shoreline around the lake, and they will fine you. Kinbrook has sites open year round.

Lac Ste Anne
West Cove - 9 to 10 inches of clear black ice. Crazy slippery with no snow cover. Bite was slow, but we didn't stay for prime evening bite.

Please be careful out there. Family of 3 lost their lives at the narrows on Lac Ste Anne Saturday evening. Went thru the ice in their sxs. My thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends.

Sad to hear
Not saying anything on this incident but there is people far to complacent when it comes to driving on the ice

I fished the north west section of Newell on Sunday. Measured 7 and a half inches of ice. Ice was rock solid where we were. Didn't see any open water anywhere I could see. Maybe some open spots in the very middle of the lake? Not sure where you're gonna put your canoe in 🤷. Use caution though, always trust that gut feeling.

Thanks for the update. Weather all week is brutal for making ice. +12 in Brooks right now. Highs well above zero all week long. We fish "deep south" Newell, in a spot not very many people go to. I have confidence that it'll be good ice for maybe 50yds or so off shore, but it drops off quickly to a 40ft hole, and that ice will thin out quickly. Have my axe and will test as we walk out.

Rocky Mtn House Area
Today got the ice auger out and tested two lakes for this thread. East end of Twin Lakes was 8 1/2" measured. West end had 10 1/2". Cow Lake had 9", and the fishermen I talked to said the bite was slow, but did see one angler land a small pike. Too little ice for pickups yet, but several ATV's out on the lake.

Coal lake had 13 in of good ice. There was a truck that drove out 1 mile to the east side. Some vehicles parked on the ice 100 yds out. I dont recommend 3/4 tons but small suvs should have no problem getting around. Couple inches of snow on top so the traction is good.

Was at buck lake today entered the lake from oaks bay boat launch and stayed close to shore with my f150. 13 inches of ice by reeds and when I got to my location I was fishing in 18-26 ft and the ice was about 10 inches. I parked my truck along the shore line and walked out to my fishing location. Be carful on any lake this year with temps bein where there at. I’ve bin paying attention to over night lows out at buck so I was comfortable driving the shore line with my truck. Do not drive across the middle of the lake it just not safe as of yet to do so. Fishing was ok keeper Walter and 1 10in perch.

2023/2024 Ice Reporting
Chain Lakes has 6-7”” of good ice. The ice was loud today - lots of cracks and creaks all day.
Lots of people on the ice. No vehicles or even atv’s yet.

Yes, decent action. Just out there again today. A lot of the snow has blown off so ice cleats are definitely helpful right now.
