That article compares the T3 vs the original Vanguard where most people today would be comparing the T3X vs the Vanguard S2.

If weight is your primary concern, then yes, buy the appropriate rifle.

T3x is Sako action Weatherby Vanguard is a Howa action. My vote goes to the Tikka.

Default My experience

I own 2 Wby’s - a 257Wby Mag in a MkV, and a Vanguard in a 270W. Both bought used and both P/O claimed they shoot excellent. But both shoot 1.5” at the very best. And I’ve tried MANY different loads to try to get them to shoot better. But apparently that’s a WBY thing - some just don’t shoot good no matter what you do. And now I know why they were for sale.

I also own 3 Tikka T3’s, and two Tikka M695. And a couple Sako’s for that matter (same family). Every one of them shoots .50 to .75. Three of the Tikka and both Sako were bought used. Every one of these 7 has noticeably smoother bolts than either of the Wby’s. Mine are T3 and I think one of the mods to make them a T3x is the stock is lightened. So I can’t comment on that. The only synthetic I have in a T3 is a 22-250 and I don’t mind it at all.
