The snow has dropped a fair bit. 3rd wire from the bottom of a 4 wire fence is showing.

I just checked out the averages for our river breaking up in Fort McMurray and according to my math for the last 28 years it is on the 20th of April .
Pretty safe to say that ain't happenin' on the 20th this year!
I'm thinking into May this year and that has only happened a few times in the last 100 years!

From the weather network:
Friday, April 13, 2018, 9:31 AM - Some records weren't meant to be broken and this, is definitely one of them. The city of Edmonton, Alberta has become the (un)lucky winner of an historic stretch of cold weather. We're talking nearly SIX months of overnight lows below freezing.

I havn't paid much attention but I saw my first Robins a few days ago. Actually there were 14 of them, all sitting in one tree looking down at the ground that was covered with about 4 feet of snow.
The melt has been slow but I am getting prepared for lots of water fast. I usually pump the low spots in my yard and run a hose to a slough or low spot in my field. Still about 4 feet of rotten snow in the field so I had to dig a trench so I could stretch out my hose.
Hope that my sloughs do not dry up and the ducks start nesting there again.

In my next life I am going to "keep moving south until the butter melts" before I take out a title on a homestead. Got to love Alberta.

Flies are flying. Seen some geese flying south Thursday. I figure the said “ **** this noise we’re going home” lol. A little freezing rain last night but the sun is shining and with the wind blowing the way it is I would suspect that the snow will drop substantially. Just in time for more snow forecast for Sunday and Monday. Gonna guess the ol girl will be in the garden June 22.

The baby gophers are having a good time playing on the drifts. I wish I could get in the field so they would not have such a good time.

Yep! Felt the need to shovel that slush off my back deck and when I finished the front deck was almost clear by the melt.

Seen two robins yesterday. The white flag has been lowered and the battle cry has sounded. We’ll get thru this yet. One thing I noticed is there’s geese and swans feeding with the cows. Kinda neat to see them eating together after the bale processer has gone thru.

I looked to the skies today and a light has blinded me. What is this? I am so confused.
