The Wife filled her antlerless elk tag yesterday afternoon from our ground blind. A nice dry three year old in excellent shape. She was very happy. One shot with the 7mm-08 through the heart. I am very proud of her.

Private land elk down. We have permission on 1 quarter of land surrounded by heavily patrolled “no hunting” properties. Used to have some restricted permission previously but poachers ruined it for us. However after watching a small herd stay in inaccessible land for 4 mornings and evenings they finally made a mistake. They were feeding on the cows swath grazing area 25m onto the permitted property. We watched patiently waiting for legal shooting time. As if on que they started heading for the fence 2 minutes before legal time. A quick cow chirps stopped the bull in his tracks and got really curious and walked towards us.
He stopped at 430m and stood facing me. I tried resting on the window of the blind but wasn’t real comfortable so I stepped out of the blind and laid down prone off bipod. Steady as a rock. Check on the time and was well legal. Held on him for what seemed like an eternity. Finally he turned broadside. Crosshairs settled a tad behind the shoulder and whoolup. I actually seen the bullet trace and impact. He stumbled for about 5 steps and fell over dead. The cows vacated but to our surprise 2 other bulls returned and walked up to him and sniffed their dead buddy. My brother elected not to shoot. Didn’t feel comfortable with the shot on another one.
He had broken his main beam right in half previously otherwise would have been a perfect small 6x6. Fantastic looking meat though. 260 rem with 130gr Berger did awesome job. 2” hole threw top of the heart and bottom of lungs mush. Recovered the bullet just inside opposite ribs. Weighed bullet at 100 grain.

i’ve seen a lot if threads lately informing me on how bergers have no business in a hunting rifle and only lead to wounded non blood trail leaving game! 😂😂😂😂😂
how could that bullet even travel that far from a non magnum??😂😂
congrats on a great harvest; seems like all those practice rounds at competition last few years is paying off.

Me.and my buddy doubled down and both filled our Mule.draws within about 3 1/2 minutes of each other. His step son in law should be almost done cutting the meat right now.

I was contemplating using the 6.5 Grendel but felt a bit overgunned. Magnum primers made the difference. Lol

He did it!
Kid put in ten 5 am wakeups to try for a buck. Had a few close calls. Saturday morning saw him looking through his scope at a 170" monster at 250 yards. I swear i could hear HIS heart pounding, lol
He said he was too shakey, so we watched the buck follow a doe into the bush.
Two nights later, he was given a golden opportunity on a feeding buck. 150 yards totally unaware of our presence.
1 shot put him down in sight, and the high fives started.
Biggest trophy I've ever been a part of hands down. What a feeling.
243win, 100gr partition. Didn't go 5 yards.
