Just released average US gas price for long weekend is $3.35/US gallon or 88 cents a liter. Almost half of our Alberta gas price.

They are gouging, but that still works out to about $1.20 Can per liter. $1.33 can per liter in Edmonton today.

Sorry 88 cents liter is correct. You guys miss the point our gas and diesel is produced from Alberta oil by oil workers payed in Ca$, oil field equipment manufactured in Nisku from our Ca$ steel, oil refined in Canadian refinery.
I do not give sh-t about US$ as I buy my gas with Canadian $.

You guys miss the whole point, why do we Canadians pay $1.60/liter for gas when Americans only pay 88 cents/liter. PS It is not all taxes. We produce 5 times as much oil as we consume but sell 4 million barrels/day to dem americans at major discount price of -$15/barrel.

Does the oil refined to gas in Canadian refineries buy their feedstock at WTI or WCS?

You realize every country that buys our oil pays WCS, not just “dem Americans”, including us?

Others have explained taxes and exchange rates but you aren’t grasping it, so I won’t go into that again.

The Coop refinery in Regina buys WCS and has been selling gas in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain for $1.30 a liter for most of last year while Big Oil (Shell/Esso) have been charging $1.50 or more /liter. Some companies do not practice Gouging of consumers.

Is that their posted price or the price after GST is added. If that is posted then the real price is 136.5, which is still better than what most of the others besides Costco and few few independents are selling for. Got gas at St Albert Costco for 129.9 yesterday. "Your Spot" independent is actual a couple of cents cheaper at 127.9.

But 1.30 is gouging Canadians of the 88 cents you claim we should be paying.

Does it irritate you that Coop gouged us Canadians $15 a barrel for their feedstock? The nerve of them!!!

There’s a fairly new gas station on Tsuut’ina kitty corner from the Metro Ford dealer, it has the same ownership & logo of the one by Buffalo Run Costco. I asked & they said it opened in late June (just a bit west of Grey Eagle Casino). It’s closer to home for me so I’m not burning fuel to save on a fill. My diesel was $1.429 yesterday, which is 11 to 12 cents better than other stations nearby.

And what is the average hourly wage in Canada VS in the US? I care to say per hour you get paid more across most if not all sectors. It’s easy to see why things cost more if you view the big picture and don’t get stuck one one item. I’d also say your numbers appear to be comparing prices in USD to Canadian with no regard to exchange rates.

Well as long as the price for a barrel of oil is below $70 US a barrel everyone should expect to see cheaper prices for gas at the pump.

Almost every gas station offers some kind of loyalty incentive for about 3c/L. This is priced into their margins. If you aren't getting some kind of loyalty incentive you are getting hosed.

Ford, most appear to miss the major point. In Canada we produce and refine our own oil to gasoline and All costs are in Canadian $. If you guys in US can have gasoline at 88 cents/liter why were we being charged $1.60/liter. The exchange/conversion to US $ is immaterial.

No idea why you find it so hard to understand that, exchange IS NOT immaterial. If I can sell an apple for $1 Canadian or $.90 U.S., which is worth 1.22 Canadian, where do you think I will sell it. The fact I paid in Canadian dollars to grow it is completely irrelevant. The posted WCS price is quoted in U.S. dollars, so Friday's price of $53.80 is actually $73.20 Canadian. The $14.75 difference to WTC at $68.65 U.S. covers transportation.

Finally, if you take the government taxes off gas, ours would be $.50 a litre cheaper, so instead of $1.29 at the pump now, which is 95 cents U.S., it would be .79 cents Canadian. After exchange we are paying 58 cents a litre U.S. for our gas. Sans tax, our gas IS cheaper than the States by a lot in U.S. dollars and a bit in Canadian dollars. Now if we could rein in the profligate spending of our Governments it would help a lot with the cost of everything.

Profligate /prŏf′lĭ-gĭt, -gāt″/
adjective Given to or characterized by reckless waste; wildly extravagant.
"a profligate spender; the profligate use of water."

Some of the Edmonton west gas stations are selling regular for $1.24… I’m surprised the Spruce Grove is still at $1.32. Spruce is usually the cheapest here, beats even Costco sometimes….
