Beauty pics southwest, got a marten in camera in our spot on edge of foothills but no season for em , also had a Fisher last year..pretty neat to see for a guy from the prairies... yes and all those fancy perfumed woman would croak if they knew castors helped in that fragrance..lol

Gorgeous fox for sure!
My most memorable run-in with a fox while hunting was when I had a small buck show up under my tree stand. He was happily eating the Old Man's Beard on the branches beneath me and had no idea that I was sitting fifteen feet above him.
Then a fox came along from behind me, that the little buck ran down the trail, and then turned around and put on a display of defiance, snorting and stomping. The fox just stared at him with a look of shock and eventually trotted away. The buck then resumed feeding beneath me.

Great thread and great photos, thanks for sharing them.
I’m not trapping this year but I miss it. I’ll hope coyotes rebound and get back into it but for now I don’t feel like tinkering with only fisher and lynx. I called a lynx into ten yards last week while coyote hunting. They’re great to see, both alive and dead in a snare. Lol

COOL!
Is that a typical color phase for around your neck of the woods?

No that one is quite light colour I will post a pic of all the put up Martin in a few weeks to show all the colours. The trapline with that Martin is in wmu 404 an the colours vary but I have another line to the north in wmu 406 so it’s not that far away but divided by a huge mountain range an the Martin there are all a really dark colour.

martin
I like the real dark brown/2x3x martin. They usually go for better prices at auction than lighter colors. I find you can get variations within same trapline depending on area. My guess is very aggressive male tends to pass his color genes to all his favorite/willing girl friends in his active area.
I was very annoyed couple years back when West Fraser logged area of trapline on Windfall river that produced larger dark heavy Top Lot martin.

fisher
357XP, glad you posted your high fisher catch and low marten numbers. I always found after pulled number of fisher off an area of line, marten numbers went up. PS nice pictures except cold -29oC on river morning. Liked marten thawing by warm fire.
