here we go again......1 year later and the fridge froze up again and has been unplugged defrosting for 3 days now.
The drain line was not frozen whatsoever and we had 4-5 inches of ice build up on the vent shown in pic.
I spoke to a technician and he recommended replacing frost sensor, thermistor and fan but this has been replaced 2 times now in the past.
Anyone have any experience with this? This fridge will become target practice
very soon as i had enough!

Do you buy chance have a humidifier in your home, hot tub anything that would drive up humidity? Also do you have anything that would imped air flow around the fridge?

I'd keep all the receipts and if this kept happening take them to small claims court to get a full refund - there is NO WAY people should be paying a dime for a product under warranty - especially at what appliances cost these days.

My bet is most of your Componets are fine. The problem is the defrost termination sensor location or the termination set point. I’m not a appliance tech so I’m not sure if they have the ability to change the min defrost time or the term set point on these little fridges. If you look at the evaporator see if you can see the term sensor and maybe relocate it to the part of the coil with the least amount of air flow.

I bought a new SS kitchenaid set for my kitchen but have had issues over the past two years with my fridge and range.
My fridge keeps having massive ice build up on the vent just behind the drawers, it extends across the whole width of bottom and roughly 4-6" high. I've had three different techs come up and replace the defrost component, move/replace the sensor that detects frost + kick on defrost. Every visit corrected the problem for about 4-5 weeks and all of sudden the ice is back.
(The fridge is not overfilled if you may think that's issue)
My range gives me a f6e0 lost communication error which made the techs replace 3 of the boards about 6 months ago but the same error is back.
This is becoming a nuisance and pain in the arse as I need to take all of our food out and unplug the fridge when they visit but thankfully I bought 3 years extended warranty.
I am getting fed up with this lemons and either I'm gonna take a sledgehammer to them or use as target practice.
Has anyone has these issues? I'd appreciate any help.

There is a “duck bill” rubber tip on the bottom of the fridge defrost drain tube that goes into the evaporation tray under your fridge. It gets sealed off by dust bunnies and other dirt and won’t drain. The water backs up until it’s in the freezer the freezes off. Pull out the fridge remove the back and cut 1/4 inch off of the duck bill. Obviously after you thaw it out, your welcome

Mine has a plastic drain tube without rubber.
I contacted kitchen aid and they have a service technician scheduled to check it out. There is a service bulletin for this exact issue.
Lets see what happens.

That’s not what I said at all, the exact opposite in fact, you have an issue because it does not leak out into the tray that is just above the floor, you need to learn how a fridge works. The fridge works off of the freezer and pumps cold air into the fridge from the freezer. The air is cold so the passage where the cold air flows to the fridge builds up with frost. There is a heat element in it that turns on periodically to melt it so it does not freeze off. When it turns on the water runs down a tube into a evaporation tube on the bottom of the fridge. That tube has a set of rubber duck lips on the bottom. The lips are bugged because they get wet and crap sticks to them and they get plugged. No the melted water can not get out into the tray so it slowly builds up until it gets into the freezer where it freezes, the heat tube keeps working, the water tube is frozen so the water spills into the freezer through the fan, wrecks the fan and builds ice up in your freezer floor. When you thaw it out like you say without cutting some of the duck lips off it just starts the process over. If there is no duck bill then it’s still being blocked off by something so the water cannot get out.

The end of the white tube is plugged or in the trap, take that off and extend the black tube down closer to the tray so it does not splash when it drips.

If you are in Edmonton Aptco Appliance is an authorised warranty service outlet. They have an excellent tech, name is Dong. Very good at fixing Kitchenaid right the first time and excellent about getting stuff covered under warranty. He set it up so I got $4,000 cash rebate from Kitchenaid because they could not supply warranty parts on a 12 year old fridge. I used that rebate to apply on the new replacement fridge.

My repair guy said don’t get one with a water dispenser or ice maker. They are the worst.
More analog… less digital if you can find one.
