Don't forget the scent bags. Get some burlap sacks fill with 10-15 pounds meat scraps dip burlap bag full of meat in used fryer grease and hang a couple in sunny openings at head height in opposite directions from bait They can be 50 yds from barrel cause if bears find scent bags they'll find barrel. I like them in an opening so sun and breeze can get at them easily to disburse scent. head height keeps small critters from pulling them down.
Im just going to start baiting early next week. Us old guys have an aversion to hauling heavy bait thru deep snow and I've never not gotten a bear yet even with late baiting. Splash LOTS of grease around

you may find a Big Black Bear boar out here

but the first two weeks of May when the dandelions are out and green grass is the start around here as they start showing up on the lease roads ditches along with the deer

Somewhat I believe.
It's going to depend a lot on the snow level in your area, but in my opinion only a week or so earlier than last year.
I would say in 2 weeks it would be time to get serious and expect the smaller bears to start showing up shortly after that.
Sows and cubs won't be too far behind them, followed by the big boys around the middle of May.
That's how it goes for us anyway.

Was up in 400 today on quad with wife found one set of tracks old but other then that not much activity was best way to spend a date espicaly the meal of fire roasted hot dogs next to river

I set my bait last Sunday and checked today. It was hit, first bear hit on April 10th here is a couple pics, had over 300 and lots of day time but here is a couple later pics that look alright.

I was out for about a 20 km walk on the 15th west of sundre and saw nothing. Some fresh cat tracks that weren't there when I walked by the first time, but no bears.
As an aside, anyone have any Intel as to where I can find some bears around sundre/Caroline/RMH? Mainly looking to spot and stalk.

I went and checked the game cam today...looks like things are getting going a little earlier than normal this year. I can identify 6, maybe 7 different bears visiting my site (2 or 3 black, 4 coloured). No shooters yet but these pics show the two best boars to show...thus far.

That black looks pretty good. Big crease in the head and thick shoulders. The brown looks like an old sow to me. Great colour.

Yeah, the black is a solid bear for sure...I'm guessing he should make 19", but not in the class I'm looking for. As for, the brown pictured..."it" is definitely a "he", as I got to watch him "perform" with the girls last year at the same site. I've been seeing him for 4 years now...more or less since he was a small blonde 3 or 4 year old. He's fairly easy to recognize as he has a strange look/shape to his face. Here are a couple more pics of him...
