In your neck of the woods folks may still be shooting birds. If you can get some bird carcases or shoot some pigeons for bait coyotes will carry them away leaving trails of feathers on nearby bushes to direct you to the trails they use.

Great minds think alike Tikka , I been saving my pheasant carcasses and dumped them at this bait today . This is wide open prairie grassland down here , very little brush but I was fortunate to get permission on a piece of ground that has lots of grass left over , so some cover . Also picked up my first of the year there today , beautiful big male . Set out 41 snares at 2 baits they we prebaited a week ago, you guessed it nothing but deer hair left . Rebaited and now waiting for the 2 day check .. that is if I can keep myself from going tomorrow Had one minor disaster today , my bait scent jar came partially open in the back of the truck . Had no idea 3 chopped up beaver tails could smell that bad ..lol . on my way to the car wash now.

I put out a bait and a few snares on Tuesday and got my first one today.
Hopefully not all coyotes will look like this one this year.

Congrats on your first snared coyote. Even though it's a mangy one.

Crappy to be honest. Partner bailed on me. Weather was warm and it seems like there was not near the bait around this year. Nobody shooting deer. I was all geared up for a big year and everything fell apart. I'm still getting a few on the baits I have up but not near what I was hopeing for. I'm onto the wolves and yotes up north now and should haul in a bunch there.

Youre doing good Peter , I had 2 last year and a couple the year before . Hurts to see a paycheck laying there torn to pieces but not as bad as the one that got stolen by some inconsiderate sledders .{ cant use the more descriptive and appropriate words here on AO }

Not at the locations that I've trapped the last four years, they have gotten nicer every year. Hopefully you'll experience the same. I Started trapping a sheep farm this year for the first time. Caught two so far. First one shoulder mites and the second one okay but had red belly. It seems to me that Cleaning out the infected ones has a long term positive effect on the rest of the coyotes in the area.

Had a good first check....snares out on 3 baits. Got 8 the first week, one was just crap house luck, I threw up half dozen snares at some fence crossings with the kid when I was dropping off bait for the first time, and had one caught when I went back to hang snares at the bait. Looking good so far, and hoping this cold weather gets them moving more. I was going to set up 2 more baits this week, but decided I'm getting soft and going to wait until this deep freeze is done, lol

Default new spots

set up 2 new spots today with bait and got quite the surprise as I was transitioning from one spot to the other as I crested a hill and started done the other side there was a large cat sitting on the gravel road it jumped into the bush but stayed long enough for me to tell what it was BOBCAT pretty stoked to see that and hopefully I can put one or two in fur shed,here's hoping

A decent check this morning . KBF and I caught 4 , but 1 was destroyed by birds , called in another 3 and managed to get one . Any clues as to how to keep birds off ?

Good call. I went out today to hang a few snares.....-30 windchill. Yeah, nah.

Cam, put up scarecrows to scare off the birds.

Nice going, Peter! Those are great numbers. I'd love to get one coyote per day on average over the season......That'd be perfect for me. Good luck catching that bobcat!
