Don't let anyone know where that is, or the homeless will move in.

It was one weird day today, and I thought the day was going to be a bust, up until about 5:50…….
When this doe just popped out not 3 yards from the blind….. I’m not sure who was more surprised to see who, but she hopped into the willows and stood there wheezing and blowing like crazy.

She had a fawn with her and they just faded off into the nasties, and were gone. Then another doe and fawn crossed 150 yards east of the blind.

Finally at about 6:20, a deer came out of the south all jets on, I first saw it mid glide right over the fence, when it landed the “Hoover” maneuver began….. BUCK, he went behind the old brush pile, but I’ve seen that maneuver before, I knew where he’d show himself, right smack in the 10:00 angle lane, up went the rifle, and what seemed like an eternity came to pass, and there he was, a fine buck nice and wide, 4 or 5/side, but maybe a bit short in the tines….. I actually had my finger inside the trigger guard, and I said to myself, not on day 1!

I hope I don’t regret that call……….

Tomorrow I’m prepping for the trip up north to hook up with Rugersingle, and we will get our blind time up there, my son in law will take to the palatial blind for the weekend……. Standby.

If it eas up here I would have smoked that buck, but you have a lot more and bigger deer in your area for sure, plus a copious amount of time to take a bigger one

Great thread again dick. A little south of you we got inundated by coyotes. Blew the field out twice. Switch modes and focused on coyotes. Missed first one at 365m. But the next 3 fell to the wife’s 7-08ai. Try again later today.
Good luck up north Richard.

Got behind on updates, because there wasn’t much to update. I took Saturday off to prep for my trip north, the son in law sat the blind Saturday morning, and only had a doe and 2 fawns go by in the am, he’s been going flat out with work, side jobs and a new house so he banged off home in the early afternoon to get some rest. He sat Sunday morning and saw nothing, and then the Pitboss and his girlfriend sat last night, and I had zero communications from them, so I’m not hopeful much came from their sit.

I travelled yesterday.

I’m now up north, with Rugersingle at a good buddies place, my buddy and I went and sat in his truck watching his uncles field last night, we had 27 deer(3 small bucks) feed all around us, but the hellacious winds un doubtably effected deer behaviour last night. Today Rugersingle and I will nestle into the 6x6 blind at my buddies alfalfa field and see what develops……. My buddy had cell cam issues, which I rectified yesterday so we’ve been 3 weeks with no pictures.

Rugersingle and I made to the blind, 40 mins before legal light.

Things were very quiet to start then deer started drifting from the south thru the alfalfa towards the bush. We were blessed with 15 whitetail does, 2 tiny bucks, a cow and calf moose and 2 mule deer way over to the east.

Weather sure is weird this year...doesn't look like we are going to get much snow in the bush at all!

At 10:30 it has begun snowing….. so looks to be more atypical weather wise.

The evening sit had a dozen does and fawns, plus a 3x3 and a spike, plus a half dozen mule does.

Cmon, Mr. Wonderful, all these girls need to be tended too…….

It’s beginning to happen.

This morning the girls came by late returning from their food source south of us, then bam there stands a buck less than 60 yards away, a nice 4x4 with decent tine length and average mass, too close too fast and eye ball to eyeball with us in the blind. He moved off to the northeast and more girls followed up.

We set a couple mock scrapes, and cell cameras, and put out “scarface”(buck decoy)

An hour after putting the decoy out this happened.

A very good looking 4x3, which we let pass.(crap brows)

After our encounter with the 4x3, it was quiet for a few hours until deer movement was noted about 4:15pm, with 3 does/fawns, followed by a spike buck and the 4x3, those deer killed around the decoy for a spell before moving on to the south, then around 5:20 more does and fawns started coming down the bush row heading south, then a fork horn buck, and alas the big 4x4 from this morning. We knew the shot was going to be close, so Rugersingle took my 7-08 instead of his muzzle braked 7Rem Mag, and at about 60 yds the buck locked on to us, so Rugersingle, let fly on the slightly turned head on shot. The buck wheeled and did a 75 yard death dash before he flopped. The 139 grain LRD enters high on the bucks right brisket in front of the shoulder, transverse both longs and exited just in front of the far side diahphram.

Nice buck and congrats to your hunting partner. Hard to let a buck with width like that walk and I'm sure he will make good jerky and sausage. That's what it's all about boy wack'in and stack'in!!!
