Thank you all for the answers, but of course I’m not looking for workarounds, maybe I was interested in the wrong way, but I was just at this Calgary Shooting Center Ltd. where they refused me and told me to come with a license.
I looked for who offers courses in Calgary and found this page https://aheia.com/classroom-training, but unfortunately the only available course for November 28-30 is already filled https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...G9g/closedform
And I don’t see any other options yet, sadness

CSC, TSE, and Straight Shooters all do "rent" firearms to unlicensed shooters under direct supervision of a range officer, but only to groups with more than 2 people. They do not allow solo non-licensed shooters to come in and "rent" a firearm - it's a suicide prevention policy that other ranges follow too. I'm guessing that this is what may have happened if Capsul went in by himself.

There's no doubt that indoor shooting ranges are expensive, but to be fair, most of what they paid wasn't for overpriced ammo, it was for day use passes for unlicensed shooters, and probably more expensive yet because it was the weekend.

Why is that crazy? I took my son there and to the Phoenix range to shoot handguns before we decided to take the course and buy our own. Why go through it all if it isn't your thing? I took my son for his birthday and blasted off quite a few boxes (ammo was cheap then). We were under the supervision of the range master because we only had a PAL, no restricted. It was a good time

The simplest answer to your question as to 'why', is because Canada's firearms laws are idiotic and arbitrary, and deliberately vague. They aren't supposed to make sense, by design. The intent is to confuse and intimidate.
There is no other answer. It's not designed to make sense. The entire Firearms Act should be scrapped.

Very similar to how they write about gun laws in Ukraine, at least 10 years ago, I can buy everything from a .50 caliber and an assault semi-automatic shotgun, but I can’t buy a Glock 17

I'm trying to be funny and not rude but if you want modern military type weapons. You should have gone back to Ukraine. Not come to Canada.

Capsul-it's as simple as this; guns are legal in Canada, you have to follow a strict process to obtain them, and our current government (going on 8 years) has spent allot of it's time trying to END PRIVATE GUN OWNERSHIP in CANADA altogether. Firearms are not a "right" under Canadian law, and they are controlled at a federal level.
Good news is-you're in Alberta, which might be the most gun-friendly province IN Canada.
The current Canadian Government does not want you to own guns, but due to their history/tradition in this country and the fact that people who are licensed don't break the law with them (as a rule), the government has 2 options.
1.let us have them and leave us alone (which is the right answer)
2.spend millions of dollars convincing Canadians that it'll take BILLIONS of dollars to make Canada safe by banning guns, and destroying them.
Our federal, Liberal government chose option #2 It does not make sense, but that's Canada for you. You follow the rules, buy what they tell you you can buy, use it safely/support the economy...and your reward is a government trying relentlessly to take that same property away from you.
Allot of your questions will be answered in a PAL course (PAL=Possession Aquisition License) but be sure when you choose one to confirm how your citizen status might impact your ability to have a firearms license. I don't know the rules there.
Re: bushcraft-this site is a web forum, a place where people come and share experiences, ask questions, etc. If there is something specific about the outdoors you want to ask, ask away. You might get better responses if you tell people what you're wanting to do (fish, hunt, camp, or?) and be specific about what you're wanting to learn.
Lastly, it's safe to assume that everyone on this site uses firearms for hunting, pest control and recreational target shooting. In other words, not for two-legged targets, offensive OR defensive...so you won't really hear people describing them as weapons. Unless it's defense against predators, the 4-legged kind.
If you're wanting to play with AR-15s and AK-47s, there is a country just south of us where gun ownership is a right, and toys like that can be owned/used lawfully.

Thank you all!
I submitted the complete set of documents at the end of April, and now, six months later, I’m thrilled to share that I am officially a proud license holder!
