The whole thing is kind of tricky. When you get you minor's PAL, you can possess a firearm, but you can't own it until you are 18. But that doesn't mean you can't temporarily possess it for a REALLY long time. Does your dad have a PAL?

If your grampa left it to you, it should be in your possesion as soon as possible. I hunt with my dad's shotgun, and my son will inherit someday. This is a great thing.

If you need help, PM me. I'll help with whatever you need.

The CFSC does throw a lot at you fast. And for the haters out there, this is a tricky situation. Cut him some slack. This young fella shouldn't be getting flamed for asking questions, stop being dumb asses.

All good except the Alberta Huning Regs pretty much say he has to be accompanied by a person 18+ who has the writtem blessing from his folks.

2 Pieces of Legislation need to be satisfied to go hunting as a minor. The Federal Firearms Act, and the Alberta Wildlife Act.

No you don't have to retaske it.... once you have completed the test you are good for life.....just keep your certificate in case you are asked.

If you ever hunt south of the border certain US States REQUIRE that you have proof of completing your hunter training on you while hunting.

....if you don't, then you may get a ticket.

There is no time limit on the course.

Here's your problem, you need to get a copy of your original Course Report from when you took the course. I am assuming you don't have it any more, if you do, you have no problems.

Now your instructor is required to keep a copy of your paperwork for 5 years (I think it is 5 years anyway). Can you track the guy down? That is step one.

The chances of AHEIA or the CFC locating a copy are really bad.

If you can't locate a copy, or work it out with your instructor, you may end up taking it again just to provide proof.

I havent sent in my forms and that yet because I completed the course on friday (no mail on weekends). I dont posses the gun because it is kept on our family farm where we hunt (not my home) but I do have access to the gun. My dad does not but my uncle does and hes the one I will be hunting with.
