Is it too early to start talking about Skinner? 5 goals on 13 shots. I was surprised when they didn't look for better goaltending after last year. At least if the new GM can see the light early, he will look elsewhere. Let's face it, Skinner is a decent backup goalie, that's it. This is going to be a long season and I know it's only the first game but the way their season ended, you would think they would have learned. Every point counts when it comes down to the end. At least the Canucks lost.

10th In GA, 5th in SA, top 5 in high danger chances allowed. Skinner: 36 wins, .905 SV% and 2.62 GAA.
That and ya……. Terrible goalies are always doing 16 game win streaks and taking their team to game 7 of the Stanley cup finals……
Oh and erase that horrid first dozen games of the season and how good would have last years regular season been?
Now the defence? Lots and lots of room for improvement there. Everywhere, save for ekhome

All teams are still adjusting but for some fans the pendulum swings hard either way depending on the day.
First 10 games are tuff no matter how you look at it just gotta keep outa a long skid downhill.

Agree. Most 'experts' put him just outside of the top 10 of NHL goalies. A bargain at his current salary. If he has a decent year, he's gonna get paid. Then we'll have two players who are not an 'x' million dollar player, along with Nurse, when they get the market rate.

It sure is exciting watching Mc David and the others, They are fast and talented + but going no where with the current goaltending. If the Oilers had Florida's Bobrovsky and Florida had Skinner , Mc David and crew probably woulda pumped in six + goals a game and won the Cup.

How about better defence instead.
Would have been less giveaways and bad plays resulting in fewer goals given up.
That makes much more sense.

Was at the game with my son.....Helly put on a clinic of why he won VZ, and Jets put on a clinic on how you're supposed to pass and shoot the puck. Edm was just not in it at all despite the high shot count.
On a brighter note I got a really cool orange towel with built in LED's

Yup another stellar effort, seems they need some adversity early in the year to light the fire, OH well it's just 2 games, for now

No doubt defence needs improvement, look no further than Nurse. Regardless 11 goals in two games, give me a break. I know it's early but worst save percentage in the league so far. You can say all you want about how good the Oiler's goaltending is. We shall see.

Tonight they will turn it on and own the flames.
Better as I put all my hockey picks as in oilers in one basket.
Got a feeling McJesus has had enough.
Just don’t let the flames shoot in the direction of skinner….lol

Nothing I have seen out of the Oilers this year so far has been anything but lackluster, sloppy and disjointed, goals for and against in 3 games 15 - 3 tells the whole story.

It's early and I'm sure that they will turn things around.
I agree with the posters that question the team's defence. I thought that in the off season they would have prioritized getting a couple of defencemen that can be counted on for solid minutes in the 5/6 spots. I was puzzled when they signed older forwards instead.
But it's still early.

God, that is really bad hockey the oilers are playing. This game was over half way through the first period. And the flyers aren’t playing very well either.
They ain’t coming back.

Never discount who will win when both play poorly.
Regardless oilers needed any win to start building some positive vibes in the dressing room.
Flyers are my most hated team so great to see them lose.

Even and ugly win is 2 points which they needed badly, still a long way to go though, horribly inconsistent and way to many stupid penalties

I dont understand what goaltender interference is anymore. Even the Philly goal made no sense, exact same situation was called no goal in Vancouver. Need to get some consistency out of the league.

Apparently goaltenders just need to make sure they're touching any player in the blue and not worry about making any saves, as they'll be disallowed.
Unless you're slashing the goalie, then all is good. lol
