The only time I buy ammunition from Cabelas is when they have shotshells on sale, usually the Wednesday sales. I buy most things at Prophet River.

I have been band from Edmonton by my wife unless she drives me in. The rule is I’m dropped at the door of the store and not allowed to leave till she picks me up. I’m only allowed to have interaction with hunters/gun people, horse people and old boy framers at coffee shops.

So I do go to P&D under those restrictions. I think my wife is saving me from certain jail time with these rules.

Prophet River moved their store outta the downtown area in Lloydminster and what an improvement‼️ P & D should consider a move to an area outta downtown Edmonton. Lots of space available on the outskirts of Edmonton.

yes, the location is not convenient if you are intimidated by city traffic, especially peak times but once you get close to the location the traffic pretty much disappears.
the new Prophet River store is $$$, very expensive but I don't know how they acquired the building or what the circumstances were . it needs a lot of paying patrons to pay the bills, when the patch takes a dive it will be tough to keep the lights on. I wish Clay and the staff the best of luck.

Prophet River is not expensive compared to P&D, I have compared many prices, and Prophet River is always competitive. Yes their building is large, as is their staff but they do a huge amount of online business across Canada, which brings in more revenue than a store like P&D can ever hope to do. If the market disappears so Prophet River is no longer profitable, the other shooting related retailers will also be out of business.

I have never personally been in their store but I am fortunate to have a great friend (Thanks SNS2! )who has gone in and picked up items for me when a good deal has crossed my path. I always try and support the local businesses who are fair and support the communities, even when a bit inconvenient. It means a lot more to me than saving a bit of hassle or a couple bucks.

Yup, Profit River probably only does 10-20% of its business in store. It has a great website. On the other hand P&D's new website is a pain, I preferred the old format. If gunstores want to survive and prosper in this day and age a real time accurate inventory, actual pictures, and an easy to navigate website makes all the difference. If a business wants to do well on the internet it needs to be the favored and the first website people go to when looking. PR is overwhelmingly the leader in that department.

Bought quite a few handguns from P&D back in the day. I would drive 1.5 hours into Edmonton especially for a "gun day". I'd stop at WSS on St Albert Trail first then swing by P&D....and my trip was never complete until I stopped at Milarm on the way out. Damn, I miss those days. I recently visited P&D and talked with Diane. I'm glad her and Phil are still able to keep the lights on. It's a tough business environment for them in this country. Think I'll buy shotgun from them after harvest!
