Wow very nice laker and yak too!
We are out on cold lake right now 14 landed so far nothing big but still fun.
Dead calm and Smokey which is a good thing blocking the sun!!

Great thread. Love the pictures. Picturing the bait balls hitting the surface reminds me of salmon fishing off B.C. Very cool.

Just an off hand question...what's the surface temp of the Cool Pool these days?? Was out on Wab yesterday with the youngest boy and enjoying a day of boating..some fishing with some occasional dips in the water. Surface temp was reading around 25c. Came across a couple spots of bad algae blooms. The boy said it looked like someone had a bad Taco Bell episode...lol...he wasn't wrong! Anyway...just curious what Cold Lake was reading...

22 c today was the surface temp .
We managed around 3I0 landed but who was counting ?
Stupid crazy out in around 130 fow finding suspended lakers
Most bait balls had smalls around them but nothing big but still fun!
Super dark laker!
Sons first kayak laker!
Think he is hooked but he likes the mountains and fly fishing.
Can’t blame him for that!
Mom wants her boat back.
Such nice markings on this laker.
Over 20km’s covered and 8hrs later, around 30 lakers landed, kinda gave up on the real count due to well I can’t count well past 20
No wind, smokey, humid but the sun was blocked out or we would have cooked out there today.
Had a great visit with a fish and game officer leaving the lake. So good to see them out and about.

I don't post many pictures in the summer. But its a laker thread...the only species I've fished for (all of three times so far) this open water season. So here's my contribution from last Saturday. 35" and 18.9lbs...a fatty.

Another great family outing!
Smoked fish was the bonus flavour of the day for this neck of the woods over the last few days.

First to lake trout we ever caught and didn’t really know what we were doing.
First one trolling with pink lady and 5 diamonds, 2nd one using a tube jig.

Well an awesome morning in the yak.
Landed 9 smediums, lost 4 at the yak and had a bazillion strikes.
Buggers were striking the willow leaf spoons I believe sometimes hard enough to trigger the deep 6 to a neutral position so I adjusted the screw tighter, problem solved.
I got bored catching and wanted bigger so off I went but found nothing so went back to the original area to wrap up the outing on a positive.
Maybe the bite was crazy because we had a huge storm roll in last night but I ain’t complaining.
The beast at the end of a productive outing!
Every bite feels like this fella is on the end of my line.
But reality kicks in and another smedium was all that hit my lure.
Great calm sunny day and the fish were cooperating, gotta luv it!

I was out there Sunday morning for 5hrs in my kayak and had French bay all to myself the entire time.
Landed about a dozen and lost just as many.
Mostly jigging but did pull up a few trolling with a clip on weight and a deep diving husky jerk…
Are you joining us for the Western Canadian Kayak Trails Cold Lake Classic this Saturday??
Should be a good time. Somewhere around 50 of us crazy kayakers catching lakers in French bay.

Yeah I heard a bunch of crazy kayakers are taking over French bay
I lost what I would say was a gooder yesterday multiple deep long runs and then nothing....single hook barbless and violent head shakes, dam him, got him to 20 feet below the yak twice...then my heart got broken and a deep shoulder sagging feeling.....left it for you
Saw your post on Facebook looks like you had a great time but we are not entered in the tournament but might drop by to check out peoples set ups etc weather permitting.
Always great to see various set ups and talk to people learning tips and tricks .
Funny yesterday had a conversation with a fella who was really interested in kayak fishing, the set up I run etc and well he wrote down everything and said when he gets home he will be making calls etc to purchase a new fishing rig...addictive once your into it.
Best of luck and hopefully see you this wk-end

Who you calling young, every time I get up and move my check engine light comes on and many master cautions go off which I got to override and ignore....lol.
Always nice to have a brother in arms hunting what lurks below

A beauty day in French bay, had high winds yesterday morning which made kayak fishing interesting and more fun. These yaks sure can handle 3 foot waves easily and when a wave did break over the water was out of the yak real fast. The kayak tournament is today and there was a lot out pre fishing which was cool to see. Like 30 kayaks all over the place bobbing in the wind.
We caught 18 lakers two that went 28 and 30 inches which was a bonus. Had a few kayak anglers stop by and ask what we were using as we were picking lakers off real easy amongst other kayakers.
Deep 6 #2, willow leaf and the apex trolling lure rainbow trout was the ticket for this outing.
So cool to see the campsite full of people pre fishing for the tournament and all the kayak set ups! Holy moly the sky is the limit with what people have done to their kayaks. Super friendly people who showed us their set ups etc which got us thinking about future upgrades.
Good luck to you folks today, weather looks awesome!
Just a few that came in for lunch!
Now that’s a parking lot!!!
Awesome.

Lots of smediums that kept me busy!
Wife lost a beast of a laker at the kayak, long, fat and was a slight green color, very odd colors more pile like.
Wish we would have got that one for a few pictures.

Well we headed to cold river yesterday in the kayaks. What a great outing in generally speaking uncharted waters. Once we got on them in 100-130 fow and found the apex trolling lure colour they wanted which was the five of diamonds and fire tiger well it was multiple hook ups, double headers just basically non stop action.
Hang on, man they sure can peel off the line!!!
Awesome day! Many miles covered and yup we slept real good!

I admire your self control! I'm in full packing mode, couldn't take the steady reel of fish porn...lol. Sold the house and bought a new one in Cold Lake just so I can partake anytime I want to...lol...

Living down close to rocky i am jealous, not much for good lake fisheries down here, especially for fish that size! Might end up being a annual trip if we make out well this go around.
Been watching the posts for the lake for years but figured it was time to burn some diesel and make a go of it! Any experience around the English Bay area?
