Does someone have a link to the info that states steering axles allowances aren't reduced in Ab under road ban?

I tried to find it but can't recall which act/regulation it is in. Maybe a truck cop is on here and will chime in

36,875 - 11,500 (tare) = 25375 kgs max gvw assuming the load is distributed properly on all axle groups. A guy can get a pretty big fine for being over weight so short cuts to the answer don't always work in your best interest and of course you want to haul the most you can for the customer.
A full load of the unit would be
6,500 + 17,000 + 23,500 = 47,000 kgs
47,000 - 11,500 = 35,500 kgs
A difference of roughly 10,000 kgs. It is actually closer to 70% of a full load.

No trailer, just a tandam axle body job.

Ah, must have got up too early I missed that. So with big boots up front you can go to 7,300 kgs.
7,300 + 12750 = 20,050 - 11,500 (tare) = 8550 kgs on 75% ban
7,300 + 17,000 = 24,300 - 11,500 = 12,800 kgs on 100%
Still close to 70% actual load capability. But not exactly 75% of gvw

Commercial vehicle dimension and weight regulation
Section 12 (4).
Roughly says road bans only apply to carrying axles. Carrying axles are defined in section 1 roughly saysas any axle not a steering axle.
Google Alberta Dimension and Weight Reg. Will take you to a Queens printer site that has the Reg. I have no idea how to post it here.
Section 12 is the road ban section of the regulation.
Fines for violation are significant. ( Found in Provincial Offences Procedures Reg )
Overweight 1-5000 kg is $34/100kg
5001 an up are $47/100kg
Adds up very fast.
Also remember it is illegal for the entire vehicle to exceed the sum of it"s allowable axle weights.
Very expensive very fast.
Most places that care enough to ban roads to protect them employ officers to enforce these rules. There are places in Alberta that have no sense of humour for these violations.
The last one that I dealt with before I got out of line of work was over $ 40000 in fines. Guy spend $12000 on a lawyer got convicted and the judge (as he is allowed to do ) convicted him on all the charges but reduced the fines to $ 25000. Lawyer talked him into an appeal. Appeal failed and the fines were returned to the full amount. And he got a bill from the lawyer for the appeal over and above the $12000.

Thanks. I read that but didn't piece it together. I thought there was a place in the road ban section that specifically spelled it out.

GVW is the amount stated on your vehicle registration and is the weight of the whole vehicle. The truck must be loaded properly so that no axle is overloaded. If you do not have the proper size & rating tires your truck may be registered for more than it can legally haul.

Thanks for the help guys. I learned an important lesson here.
I found out my F-550 is fine year round, but I will definitely need to be aware of road bans while operating the 7500.

Depends on what you haul there are some exemptions to road bans. As a hauler of milk we are 100% exempt from bans we just can't go over our GVW. There are others that are exempt to 90% and so on.
